SCHOOL REVIEW School review is a key element of the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0 (FISO 2.0) improvement cycle. Schools undertake a school review every 4 years to inform the directions of the school’s 4-year School Strategic Plan (SSP).

There are 2 components of school review:

  1. the pre-review self-evaluation (PRSE) where schools review their data and other evidence to form a collective view of current practice and areas for improvement. Schools complete the PRSE on the Strategic Planning Online Tool (SPOT) with the support of their senior education improvement leader (SEIL)
  2. a review facilitated by an independent school reviewer with a panel comprising the principal, school council president, SEIL, and challenge partners. The panel considers the PRSE and undertakes additional fieldwork activities such as classroom observations, focus groups and interviews. The review concludes with a report proposing draft goals, targets and key improvement strategies for the school’s next SSP.

The school reviewer also completes an assessment of the school’s compliance with the Curriculum and Student Learning Minimum Standard. Compliance with the other Minimum Standards for registered schools is assessed separately through the Minimum Standards Compliance Assessment conducted by the department’s Operational Policy, School Engagement and Compliance Division.

Our School Review is set down for the start of term 4, 2024 and our school community is involved in a number of key areas – providing feedback as we prepare our PRSE, providing feedback via focus groups on some of the days of the review and input into setting the directions of the school into the short and longer term future. There will be a number of opportunities to provide feedback over Term 3 so please watch this space for further updates.

TERM 3 EVENTS Our foundation to Grade 2 students will surely be excited about our swimming program which will be taking place in the first half of Term 3. Along with 2025 transition events, Book week celebrations and the Olympic Games we will have plenty to keep us occupied throughout the term. With regards the area where the old administration building used to be, we are extremely hopeful that we will get the go ahead from the Victorian Schools Building Authority to start our school funded synthetic turf project the moment term begins!

YIA SOO/ARRIVEDERCI/CIAO In this last newsletter of the term, I just wanted to inform the community that I am taking some long service leave for the first part of Term 3. I am happy to report that Gill Nicholls will be the Acting Principal for the duration of my leave. As you might gather I will be spending some (presumably) rather warm days in Greece and Italy before returning to Viewbank in mid-August, leave that has been deferred since COVID hit in 2020. I am sure the school is in exceptional hands with Gill and Patrick at the helm whilst I am away.

As always, if you happen to be driving by and something suspicious appears to be happening on our schoolgrounds or near classrooms, please don’t hesitate to contact the local police as your vigilance helps keep our school free from vandalism or unwanted trespassers.

I wish everyone a well-earned term break with Term 3 commencing with 3-way conferences on Monday, July 15.

Kind regards,

Bill Kersing

Principal

Once again, it has been a very busy term. As well as all the class learning that has taken place each day across the term, students have been involved in a range of extra-curricular activities such as sporting events, camps for Year 6 and Year 4, excursions and instrumental music lessons. We have celebrated our first SWPBS small school reward day and enjoyed the wonderful Mother’s Day stall provided by our fantastic Parents and Friends group.

And Term 3 will be just as busy, starting with 3 Way Conferences on Monday 15th and Swimming lessons for F-2 on Tuesday the 16th July.

I hope everyone is able to squeeze in some time to rest and recharge during the school holidays.

I’d like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing you again in Term 3.

Stay warm and enjoy those holiday sleep-ins.

Gill

Inquiry Learning The Year 4 students took action today as they cleaned up the schoolgrounds.

After lunch 4B, 4K, 4N and 4R all met to discuss their Civics and Citizenship Inquiry and one of the actions that they had planned. Students worked in groups to become active school citizens and did their bit to help clean up our school.

Our clean up revealed the following:

  • Approximately 15 kilograms of rubbish was picked up across an area of 2,500 square metres.
  • There was appoximately 166 grams of rubbish per square metre. This is equivalent to the weight of a small apple per square metre.
