LPA Newsletter Friday 10th November 2023

Head of School Welcome

Dear families,

Welcome to this week's family newsletter.

Lodge Park Academy is pleased to announce its recent achievement of the Quality in Career Standard accreditation. This quality mark is recognition of the opportunities and guidance provided for students as they develop their skills and knowledge in careers.

Today we held our Act of Remembrance with a full school assembly to show our respect to those British service personnel who have died in conflict. Our CCF cadets laid wreaths in reception for Alex Shaw and James Ashworth, former pupils of Lodge Park.

Warm Regards

Ruth Roberts - Head of School

HOUSE NEWS

House assemblies this week have focused on the value of respect linking into our Act of Remembrance.

The assemblies looked at how we show respect for ourselves, others and community.

Key messages included that RESPECT…

Is a way to let people know you care for them and understand them.

Is a way to let each other know that we understand each other’s feelings and wishes.

Makes us feel special and cherished. It is important to respect ourselves and to respect other people.

Is shown through how we act and what we say.

Coming soon for Year 7: Taskmaster Challenge. Twelve challenges to complete to win House points!

Here are our House Captains, Lily-Mae, Ella-Jane, Emily & Freya admiring the food that LPA students and staff have collected for our Harvest Festival in their House colours. This has been gratefully received by Corby Food Bank this week.

Most importantly it’s been great to see our students and staff supporting our local community, with the added incentive for our House Teams being that the House collecting the most food would achieve the most House points for this activity. Thank you to all those students and their parents who donated to this worthwhile cause.

Kestrel House – 100 House points

Red Kite House - 50 House points

Osprey House - 25 House points

What we do: Respond Like a Scholar

Students are asked to 'respond like a scholar'. This means to answer in a sentence using the question to structure their answer. Students will also be encouraged to use tier three vocabulary, the subject specific terms.

Why we do this

Answering verbally in full sentences is good preparation for written responses. It allows all students to hear a full answer and to hear the correct vocabulary being used. This is vital preparation for extended writing which is a key skill in many exams.

LPA AdmissioN Consultation

Lodge Park Academy is consulting on the Academy’s admission arrangements. These arrangements are for students who will be starting in September 2025.

The consultation is taking place for a period of six weeks, between Monday 13 November 2023 – Sunday 31 December 2023.

Consultation will also be undertaken via North Northampton Council’s co-ordinated consultation process and will be on the North Northampton School Admissions Consultation website from the start of the consultation period.

Why are we consulting?

The Trust must set (‘determine’) admission arrangements annually. Where changes are proposed to admission arrangements, the Trust must first publicly consult on those arrangements. If no changes are made to admission arrangements, they must be consulted on at least once every 7 years.

Lodge Park Academy is not proposing any changes to its admissions arrangements for 2025 however is consulting in accordance with the requirement to consult on a 7-year cycle.

Year 11 and Year 13 Mocks

Year 11 and Year 13 mocks have started with Year 11 sitting English and History papers today.

These are an important check point as these students prepare for their final exams in May.

Students have been issued with their exam timetables which includes the important seat position information and have been told the exam regulations that apply to all public exams and that we use in mocks to ensure they are fully prepared. This includes the use of black pens, no watches and no phones.

We know the students will take these mocks seriously and it was great to see Year 11 engaging with their 10 minute boost led by Mr Horsley this morning.
