ALUMNI REGATTA
Congratulations to all the alumni who sailed in the 2024 Alumni Regatta! And a special congratulations to Connor Trepton and Kelsea Kierstad on clinching first place in the 420 fleet, and to Noah Janssen, Rebekah Janssen, and Scott Sullivan on their victory in the sloop fleet. It was fantastic to see sailors of all ages come together to relive their glory days and tear it up on such a chilly and choppy day.
On June 8th, Wisconsin Sailing alumni participated in the most competitive Alumni Regatta to date. We had an amazing turn out with past sailors of all different ages, and we were able to fill a whopping six sloops and ten 420s. The morning of race day was cold with some light patches of rain and 4-6 knots of breeze from the North. By noon, the weather was still cloudy and nowhere near the high of 69°, but fortunately the breeze picked up to around 10-12 knots with some chop. The sloop fleet completed four races and the 420 fleet completed seven. By a little past lunch time, both the sloop and 420 fleets finished up their racing and headed into Mendota Lodge to get out of cold, wet gear and to eat a lunch of true champs - bavarian pretzels from The Rath and leftover cold pizza.
By 6 PM, the sun came out and alumni and current team members came together and had a blast at the Fluno Center for the Alumni Regatta Banquet! Everyone gathered to enjoy a beautiful dinner to later enjoy the hot item of the night, the Alumni Auction. With the help of the current and graduated sailors, we were able to put together a large selection of in-person and online items to bid on. With the bidding efforts, we raised record-breaking amounts of money for our team. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and supported the Wisconsin Sailing Team! And another huge thank you to our Alumni Liaison, Sophie Lusty ('24), for all of her efforts to coordinate such an amazing event!
Go Go Wisco!

SAILOR OF THE MONTH
Carmen Lineer
Our sailor of the summer is Carmen Lineer! Carmen is a Junior crew from Minnetonka, Minnesota and is a neurobiology major planning to go to med school!
Carmen grew up sailing on Lake Minnetonka at age 6 and has continued to sail and teach sailing at Lake Minnetonka Sailing School. This summer, Carmen traveled to Bayfield for Race Week, as well as to Pewaukee for M-15 inlands. She also sailed Keelboats with her father every Thursday night this summer!
Her most memorable experience with sailing has been going to nationals with the Wisco Sailing Team these last few years. She states that the seasons leading up to those championships have taught her a lot about hard work, commitment, and discipline. And for those who know Carmen, you know she is all of those things and more. She is able to apply those three attributes on and off the water, which makes her truly an amazing student, sailor, and teammate! Carmen believes that one of the best feelings is seeing the work she's put in towards sailing during the season, and throughout her whole life, culminate in an extremely competitive regatta.
Unfortunately, Carmen needs hip surgery this semester, but there is no doubt after her recovery period that she will come back stronger than ever! Despite her hip, Carmen is still working hard as one of our Regatta Coordinators to make this team run as smoothly as possible!
Go Go Carmen!
ENDOWMENT
Our Endowment fund is now LIVE on our website. As a club-run team, we have to organize much of the funds ourselves, and with your help, we aim to ensure the success of the Wisconsin Sailing Team for years to come. Linked below is the donation link!
