11/17/2023 Parent Update

Important 1:1 Computer Program Information for the 2024-2025 School year below -

  • At the October 9th, 2023 School Board meeting, the Board voted to allow the Technology Department to seek bids for Chromebooks to be purchased for the 2024-2025 School year 1:1 Computer Program. Pending Board approval on the bids, all grades (5-8) at the middle school level will be provided a school-issued Chromebook for their day-to-day school work for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • We know that the holiday season in the past has been a good time to look for deals on a computer to be used for the BYOD program, so we wanted to make sure to get this announcement out to you prior to holiday season. In short, please do not purchase new laptops for your incoming middle school student(s).

Safety & Security Update:

We have had some safety concerns with students staying after school unsupervised. Students are not to remain in the building after school, unless they are participating in a club or sport, or if they are meeting with a teacher directly after school. Please ensure that your child understands these rules. Thank you for helping us keep ZWest safe and secure.

Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide Presents Child Lures Prevention (with support from Sylvia's Child Advocacy Center, and Prevent Child Abuse Boone County)

  • Think First and Stay Safe and Teen Lures are comprehensive body safety programs that teach children in grades K-12 ways to keep their bodies safe. Students will learn appropriate ways to prevent, respond to, and report situations such as bullying, cyber-bullying, and all forms of abuse or neglect. An opportunity to speak with someone about body safety concerns will be offered to all students.
  • The program will be presented to students at ZWMS on Tuesday, 11/21 and Monday, 3/4. Each presentation will be given in PE/Health classrooms, and will last approximately 30 minutes. Although not required, each child's attendance in the program is strongly recommended. For additional information regarding our programs, please visit our website at www.indianaprevention.org

The ZWMS Fall Art Contest will be wrapping up soon!! If your student would like a pamphlet covering all of the details of the contest they can pick one up on the table outside Mr. Z’s room (403) anytime. All artworks are due to Mr. Z by Wednesday, November 29th.

Please join us November 20th from 6-8 p.m. in the Zionsville Community High School Star Bank Performing Arts Center for a free two-hour child abuse prevention training. Professionals from our local child advocacy center will provide training for those who work closely with children in a wide range of roles. After attending this training, you will better understand the scope of the issue, be prepared to take actionable steps toward both preventing and responding to child abuse and be equipped to create overall safer environments for the children in our community. The training session will act as a guide for developing protective behaviors against child abuse. We hope to see you for this important conversation in Boone County. Please feel free to share this invitation with others who might be interested. The children in our community need champions to help protect and support them each day. Register at THIS LINK.

Lost & Found is growing! Please encourage your student(s) to check for their (and your) lost items in the back of the cafeteria.
