Tadpoles

The children in early years, enjoyed a visit from our local PCSO, Diane Bell. As part of our topic on journeys and transport, Diane brought a police car for the children to explore. They loved climbing into it, pretending to drive and pressing all the buttons, although it was a little noisy when the siren came on! The children had lots of questions for Diane. There may be lots of ‘budding’ police officers, in early years!

Frogs

The children in Frogs have been learning about keeping safe when out and about. PCSO Diane Bell came to show us how we STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK when we cross the road. We have also been practicing this when we went on our visit to Immingham Library.

Next term we are looking forward to warmer weather and starting to grow our own fruit and vegetables!

Cygnets

Cygnets had a great afternoon expanding on our capacity knowledge. We made predictions as to how many cups of water would fit in the measuring cylinders.

Dragonflies

We have had so much fun in Dragonflies this month! At the beginning of March we had a very interesting assembly about road safety. We learned the importance of wearing a seatbelt, crossing the road and wearing a helmet when we use our bikes, scooters and even roller blades!

Later in the month we enjoyed World Book Day. We wrote about mysterious, magical settings and wrote our own spells. We loved the Quidditch event in the Key Stage 2 playground too!

In English, we have been writing a newspaper report based on the events in the story ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. We did some role play of news reporters interviewing the characters in the book which was very funny!

Last week, we enjoyed Comic Relief. Dragonflies didn’t do well at matching the baby photos of the teachers but we made some great party hats with our adults at home which Mrs Portlock loved!

Swans

This month we have been working on fractions in maths. The children have enjoyed working with each other to problem solve and all are really good at finding a half, a third and quarters. In English we have been reading 'The Robot and the Bluebird', where the children have been immersed in their reading by being the robot and giving him advice what he should do next. We have also started some exciting SATs practice with all the year 2s, which they have all been working so hard with and doing a great job.

During the afternoons we have been able to watch a rocksteady concert that some children in our class were a part of, we were all so proud of our friends who did this. We have been continuing our learning about Florence Nightingale as well as extreme weather in geography.

We are looking forward to learning about measurements in maths and continuing our story of 'The Robot and the Bluebird'. Next week we are starting our DT project of making pouches using our sewing skills.

Otters

Otters have worked very hard this term to improve their fraction skills, identifying numerators, denominators and identifying equivalent fractions.

We have been enjoying a range of poetry by Valerie Bloom, a Jamaican writer. It has been fascinating discussing her different use of vocabulary and the 'slang' terms that are used in different parts of the world. We have used this to create our own poetry.

In Geography our attention has been on rivers, their different parts and their features.

In History we have continued to learn about the Egyptians and can discuss the tools used to help them farm their lands.

French has seen us learning to present ourselves, saying hello and how we are feeling.

In Music we have been learning to play the pentatonic scale on glockenspiels and the children have been composing their own melodies using these notes.

We had a blast on Red Nose Day, guessing the teacher’s baby photos and WINNING! We all enjoyed a slice of cake to celebrate.

Turtles

Turtles have enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day and Comic Relief.

As a class we have been discussing rivers and the water cycle. We are looking forward to hearing how our story 'Lob' ends.

Blue Whales

Blue Whales this half-term have enjoyed lots of different types of activities. From Quidditch on World Book Day to Comic Relief, from finishing reading Street Child to discovering more about angles in maths and evolution in science. We have had a super time with all parts of the curriculum and look forward to what the summer term has to offer. Watch this space...

Sea Stars

Sea Stars have been working hard in English, transferring a chapter of 'There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom', by Louis Sachar, from prose into a playscript.

In science we have been learning about pollination and in RE we have discussed the Easter Story.

Orcas

In music this term we have been learning about hearing and picturing colours and have made our own vocal composition to represent the festival Holi.

In computing this term we have been investigating secret codes used in WWII. We deciphered them to crack the secret messages and made up our own codes. We have also been looking at how to keep passwords secure and hacker safe.

In RE we have been focusing Christianity and on Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection - the story and evidence that supports it. We discussed if we believed in destiny or free will.

This term’s art is abstract expressionism. We have created our own fauvist painting in the stye of Matisse and planned and completed an abstract sculpture.

During French this term we have spoken in French about ‘Our Home’ and the rooms we do and do not have, what type of home we live in and what environment we live in.
