Whatever Next? nursery, spring term, week 1

'Whatever Next?' by Jill Murphy has been a huge hit with the children and it also sums up our thoughts this week. What will we get up to this half term? The answer is lots of adventures!

We've had lots of fun retelling the story using props and drama.

Mrs Ranson has been taking us on adventures in our explorer zone. The children imagined they were on an aeroplane and landed in the jungle. They listened to the sounds of the jungle and went on an animal safari.

Outside in our physical zone there have expeditions into space and number work using rockets.

In our number work inside we have been looking at the number one and the number zero, learning how to read and write the numeral and select the correct amount. We played a (very popular!) game with smarties to practise this.

Our writing focus has been to develop our physical strength and co-ordination through dancing with scarves, dough disco, scrimbling, and fine motor control practise by drawing circles moving from left to right across a page.

A HUGE thank you to Lenny's Nana, Maria who came to read a story to us on Wednesday. It is so important that the children get to hear stories from a wide range of different adults. We welcome any other volunteers with open arms (it's not that scary... we squirm but we don't bite!). Please catch me at the door if you are able to help us.

Thank you!

And finally a few nice photos from our play this week...

Playing hairdressers, drawing maps together, making diagrams of constructions, building houses and creating beautiful paintings.
