Katie Fisher An Art Majors Portfolio

An OverView

As a second year student at Marshall University, I have been exploring my path as a creative and a professional. I work in all mediums, thus, I have created works physically and more prominently, digitally. Throughout these pieces, I seek to embody individuality and the personal experience while prioritizing aesthetics in both minimal and maximal manners.

Selected Photography Works for Class Projects

Photography

Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to create natural, day to day, experimental, and model based photography

Experimental - Made for a school project focusing on Appalachia. Seeks to display the fear of being a women in a region known for suspicious activity and meant to show women they aren't alone or invalidated in their fears.
Natural - A personal project of mine that explored the other-worldly appearance of natural wonders. These pieces were meant for my own personal enjoyment and I sought to create the most pleasing composition possible.
Documentary - Made for a school project to note the repetition of signs in my day to day life. I took this prompt and decided to capture street art around Huntington. These pieces were meant to showcase my bold editing skills. The boldness helps to re-emphasize the weight of the term "day to day".
Model Shoots - In my own time, scheduled paid private photo sessions with models for senior photos. These photos were composed and edited specifically to the clients desires. The color grading and editing required in these projects helped me to explore styles outside of my niche.

Graphic Design

Experience in Adobe Illustrator for poster, infographic, icon, and brand creation as well as recreation

Icons - Made for a school project to express my personality. This project was meant to be viewed by the MUSOAD staff as I prepare for foundations review. The color pallet and composition played huge roles in the effectivity of this work.

3D Design

Experience in assemblage, woodworking, hand building/thrown ceramics, and fibers

Sculpture - Created for a class assignment to express my personality through visuals and people in my life. The absurdity, assemblage technique and colors of this piece created a sense of interest even outside of my target audience.
Ceramic - Created for a class project in experimentation. This was the most open ended project I completed in my foundations experience. I created this piece for me and continued the motif of emotion throughout my pieces in this workshop.
Fibers - Created for a class assignment dealing with recreation and scale. This work was meant to be viewed in an academic setting. The impressive scale and 3D elements of this work make it interesting to an audience beyond just myself.

2D Work

Experience in mixed media, model drawing, still life drawing, painting, and commission projects

Technical Painting - Made for a class exercise where I practiced different blending techniques. This piece was only meant to be viewed by my professor but it shows my attention to detail and ability to rework till perfection.
Commission Projects - This work was made for a customer. I was prompted with things that they like and I designed the piece for approval before finishing. This project went minimally viral on TikTok and spread the word about my ability to produce commissioned work.

Basic Experience in all associated Adobe applications (PremierPro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Express, Lightroom, etc.). Digital artwork has taught me the esscence of patience, imperfection, detail, and most importantly, the value of perspective.

Basic knowledge of wood working (miter and table saws, sanding, gluing, and technical drawing), sewing machines, found objects, spray foam and other everyday products. 3D experimentation has taught me adaptability and resourcefulness to be applied in a multitude of situations.

Basic knowledge of the principles and elements of design, aesthetics, technical skill, live model drawing, and references assists me in making any kind of art. Working this way has increased my observation, expression, and problem-solving skills.
