Cowbridge Lower School Newsletter 02.02.24

Nursery have been reading the story 'Handa's surprise' this week. They have been learning all about different fruits from other countries and how the food is harvested. They have also enjoyed weaving baskets and making African necklaces with different patterns.

Nursery then had the opportunity to taste all the different fruits from the story. There were some definite favourites like the banana and some that they weren't sure of like the passion fruit. Mr Butcher popped in with a delivery (he always seems to know when we have food in class!) and we challenged him to eat all of the fruit. When Mr Butcher completed his challenge, it was only fair that he had a sticker too! Da iawn Mr Butcher!

All the children are enjoying watching the pathway at the back of the school being restored by the Vale Council. Nursery wanted to have a look at the progress on our walk and this week we saw a dumper truck. We then continued our walk to the woods and had a go at counting 7 fruits (leaves!) onto a stick to pretend we were retelling the story.

Reception pupils treated themselves to a snack of cheese and cress crackers using the cress they had grown themselves, they are now planning to grow some beanstalks!

They have been reading the story of Rosie's walk and Mrs Thomas has challenged all the children with different maths problems involving animals and their legs! It was really tricky but there was some fantastic perseverance from the children- da iawn!

Reception have also been looking at farm machinery. They designed then made junk models of their own farm machines.
