Project Description:

John Carroll University’s new fieldhouse was conceived as a shared resource for a broad range of campus users. The project scope addresses strategic renovations to existing recreation, athletics and student center spaces, as well as the potential development of either an on-site or off‑site parking garage. Because the space program for the new fieldhouse and associated renovations had not been formally defined, the planning process emphasized extensive engagement with campus stakeholders to identify programmatic needs, spatial relationships and adjacencies. The new 105,000-square-foot fieldhouse features a 200‑meter indoor track encircling a multipurpose infield that accomodates four courts striped for a variety of sports, including basketball, volleyball and throwing events. Additional track and field amenities include a dedicated long jump area and an eight‑lane sprint straightaway. The facility also incorporates a 50‑meter pool, a fitness center, a varsity weight room, multipurpose rooms, a performance gym, a training room and an exercise physiology laboratory. Collectively, the building is designed to support both varsity athletics and recreational use, reinforcing its role as a flexible and inclusive campus destination.
