Dear University Community,
- We now begin to settle into the rhythm of the Spring Semester 2025 at TAMIU. It’s also the last day to register late, so don’t let the clock wind down on your chances to advance.
- This second week of classes, the pace quickens, the opportunities to engage in the life of the University mount, and reading that syllabus begins to pay off.
- Speaking of paying off, the University recently shared its Economic Impact Analysis FY 2024 Report, showing that TAMIU generates $374 million in economic impact for Webb County and supported nearly 6,300 jobs during fiscal year 2024, according to the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development.
- Share your congratulations with both of our Dustdevil Basketball teams for great Lone Star Conference play this weekend. Women’s Basketball scored a win (61-53) over Western New Mexico University (WNMU) Saturday. Our Men’s team tamed the WNMU Mustangs with another win (65-62). The next home game for both is January 30 against St. Mary’s Rattlers.
- This week’s schedule includes Coffeehouse Wednesday with guest presenter Dr. Sean Maddan, associate provost and professor of Criminal Justice.
- We hope you enjoyed our annual Welcome Back Week festivities. A photo gallery highlighting some of the week's events is available here.
And just ahead...
- On Thursday, Jan. 30 Dr. Ediza García, TAMIU associate Psychology professor, will share insight on her research, “Student Emotional and Academic Success,” at noon in the West Lobby of the Academic Innovation Center (AIC). This is the first offering in the Spring Seminar Series hosted by the TAMIU Office of Research and Sponsored Projects.
- Coming up, the third offering of the Border Voices Lecture Series features acclaime author Elizabeth González James and takes place Feb. 6. Find out more.
- Don’t forget, your deadline to apply for Spring 2025 graduation is Feb. 15!
MAKE IT A GREAT WEEK DUSTDEVILS!
- Juan J. Castillo, interim president
