NWEA Testing This Week

This week, all MSE students will be taking their Reading, Science, Language Usage, and Math NWEA tests. These tests are a key piece of the work we do with students at East. The NWEA MAP Growth Test measures what students know and identifies areas that they may struggle in. This is important information because as a staff we use this information to plan lessons, make adjustments to instruction, plan interventions, and adjust to meet the needs of students. In order for this data to be the most accurate we could use your help as a parent in asking your student to try their best effort on the tests so that their score accurately reflects everything they know and what areas they may not know. Please see the flier below for more information

Eagle of the Week!

This week's Eagle of the Week is 8th grader Juliet S. who was nominated by Mrs. Bayly who said "Juliet is an outstanding student here at MSE. She works hard, helps others, is respectful and responsible. Juliet participates in class and is also a member of the volleyball team. She sets a great example to others with her positive attitude and outstanding work ethic."

MSE Tardy Policy

Being on time is essential for success in middle school. Students are expected to be on time for class--that means during the day from class to class they do not exceed their 5 minutes of passing, or in the morning they arrive to school on time. Parents, please get your student to school before 8:00 if you are driving them. Any student who arrives after 8:00am without a documented reason (ex. doctor's appointment) will receive a tardy. Please see MSE's tardy policy below and have a conversation with your child about getting to school on time, getting from class to class on time, and maximizing their learning so they avoid the following consequences.

Book Club

MSE Parent community connection

The PCC will be holding their first meeting of the year Wednesday Sept 18th. at 6:30 PM. We welcome everyone to join us as we discuss how we can support the students and staff at MSE. Please note childcare will be available if you have younger children and would like to attend!

Chromebook Insurance

Please see the attached flier below for Chromebook insurance in case your student's device sustains any damage throughout the course of the year. If you are a 7th or 8th grade parent, you will need to renew your insurance policy if you bought it last year. With middle schoolers, things happen! The prices to repair a chromebook add up fast and the student and parent is responsible for any damage to the school device. Common fixes include a new screen (which would run parents $58 to fix) or when a key pops off, the entire keyboard needs to be replaced (at a cost of $72). It's a great idea to sign up for the device insurance!

Parents, we know how challenging it can be to navigate social media with your child these days. Our counselors Mr. Alesi and Mrs. Hoskisson have put together a couple of resources below for information on cyber safety for kids.
