Last season the Cumberlands Cheerleading Team competed in six invitationals, placing 1st in five of them. The Patriots came out on top winning their fourth Mid-South Conference Championship with a score of 93.66 and qualified for NAIA Nationals and NCA College Nationals.
“They’re going to make young mistakes, but they have a great tenacity about them. They want to win, and they have the drive to win.” - Head coach R.J. Conroy
Looking forward to the 2024-25 season, the Patriots are a young team with only three returners, Kaylee Profit, Jadienne Woods, and captain Kylee Neace. To compliment the three returners, the Patriots have nine newcomers that will be a vital part to their success this season. UC has five competitions this season starting at Georgetown College on January 25 and they are confident that they will come out on top. Conroy is looking to not only repeat as conference champions but also hoping to finish within the top 5 at nationals this year.
Cumberlands returns a trio of veterans for this year’s squad. The trio includes Kaylie Profitt, who was a Mid-South Conference Second Team All-Conference selection a year ago. Profitt along with Jadienne Woods, who returned to the squad after being part of their 2023 team are going to be relied upon throughout the season. Junior Kylee Neace, who is a flyer for the Patriots, is the team captain and will be an instrumental part of the Patriots success this season.
In addition to the veterans, Coach Conroy has nine newcomers this season that will take the mat this season. A couple of freshman to keep an eye on this year include Bailee Brummell from Versailles, KY, Ashley Gamper, Maddie Burns, and Angela Hughes. According to Coach Conroy, these athletes are really special and he’s excited to see what happens throughout their freshman campaign.
The Patriots cheerleading team will compete seven times this season, including four regular season competitions. UC will open their season on Saturday, January 25th, when they travel up I75 to compete at Georgetown. It marks the second time in the last three years that the Patriots open the season against the Tigers, as both of these teams qualified for NAIA Nationals last year.
"We have a tough schedule ahead against a lot of great opponents, including a lot of teams that have qualified for the national championship in the past," said Coach Conroy.
The following week sees Cumberlands head to St. Louis, MO to compete at Missouri Baptist on February 1st. The Patriots return to the Bluegrass state on February 15th to compete at Campbellsville before closing out the regular season on March 1st, when they travel to Iowa to compete against William Penn.
UC, the defending Mid-South Conference champions, look to repeat that feat on March 8th. Cumberlands will close out their season with a pair of national championships. The NAIA National Championships is set for March 28-29 in Ypsilianti, MI, while NCA Nationals are April 9-13 in Daytona Beach, FL.
