You will be directly employed without any intermediator and the employers will assist you with the relocation process. Salaries offered are according to collective agreements, individual experience and abilities. The amount will be discussed with employers on an individual basis.

General Information

An aging workpopulation, the increasing number of pets especially obtained during the Covid19 Pandemic and a shortage of educated vets in Sweden makes us also dependent on foreign vets.

Sweden is looking for experienced and newly graduated Veterinarians to several clinics, at different kind of employers. We are looking for Veterinarians with interest of domestic animals, but in several locations Sweden equine Veterinarians are also needed. If your passion is livestock and working in the outdoors, then we also would appreciate you contacting us.

You enjoy working in teams, deliver with quality and have a trustworthy attitude. We believe that you are thorough, responsible, communicative with both pet owners and employees and contribute to a pleasant and open work climate. It is important that you learn Swedish to be able to communicate with pet owners and journals must also be written in Swedish. Most employers will support you in your Swedish language education. Sweden values your personal qualities and we are happy to see that you have the desire to develop long-term career in our country. However during summer season many temporary jobs are advertised as well. Sometimes a short-term-contract is a good alternativ to discover if Sweden and the employer are a good match for you. According to collective agreement most employers offer a 6 month contract to start with, which also is your trial period.

Qualifications

To be able to work in Sweden you have to have a veterinary education of at least five years. The education must be at a college or university level that gives the right to practice a veterinary profession in the country where you completed your education. Many employers are open to hire both experienced Veterinarians and newly graduates.

You also need to have permit from the Swedish Board of Agriculture to work as a veterinarian. Employers will help you to get the necessary information to complete this process. If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland you are able to work temporarily in Sweden on your foreign qualifications, without having to apply for a Swedish veterinary license. This applies only if you are working here temporarily.

If you intend to establish yourself in Sweden, you have to apply for a license. There is a possibility to apply for a special permit, called a temporary provision of veterinary services and a license with the exception of the langauge requirement while you are learning the Swedish language. If so the employer will support you to fullfill the requirement of writing medical records in Swedish until you have language knowledge yourself.

But most important is: MOTIVATION !

Motivation to learn the language. Motivation to make the best of it every day. Motivation to help clients and learn new things every day. Motivation to work with the newest equipment, medicines and tools. You see the adventure in driving to your clients under snowy conditions and you do not mind weekend shifts, which might occur now and then.

To be eligable for a position in Sweden you need to be fluent in English, at least B-level, and have a strong ambition to learn Swedish since you need to reach a good knowledge of the Swedish language, both orally and in writing. You can read more about the temporary provision of veterinary services and license here: Degree in Veterinary Medicine from a university in an EU/EEA-country or Switzerland - Jordbruksverket.

Keep in mind that distances are significant in Sweden so a drivers licence (B) is recommended
