Riverside Currents Week 4 Term 4 2025

From the Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

HAPPY WORLD SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST AND COUNSELLOR DAY! I would like to acknowledge the incredible work of our School Psychologist, Nicole Williams, and School Counsellor, Tabatha Pezzotti. They are a critical part of our wellbeing architecture at Riverside, providing personalised support to students and advice to staff to ensure that our students are cared for and have their wellbeing needs met in a timely, expert fashion. We celebrate Nicole and Tabatha and the expertise, perspective and compassion that they bring to our school. Ryde Performing Arts Festival It was my great pleasure to attend the Ryde Performing Arts Festival at the Opera House on Monday evening. Congratulations Ms Mitchell, Ms Wang and Ms Nylund for the work that they did to prepare their dance, vocal and orchestra groups of talented students for the Festival. The performances were incredible and for a school of our size, we punched well above our weight in in the quantity of performers and quality of performances - not that I'm biased! As always, the Festival provided a tremendous visual extravaganza, beginning unexpectedly from the forecourt as the storm blew in (but that's an aside). The Festival is an annual collaboration of primary and secondary schools in the broader Ryde area and is always a heartwarming spectacle. I was honoured to sit amongst the VIPs as the principal of Riverside. Congratulations to all of our students and teachers involved. HSC is over! I know there are a lot of very excited HSC students finishing off their last exams today (Physics, Dance and Food Technology). Congratulations to all of our HSC students for their endurance and effort throughout the four weeks of the HSC exams. What a relief for them, and their families, that it is over. Onwards and upwards into your next chapter, but not before you take some time to celebrate, reflect and connect with friends and family. You all deserve this time to relax and be free! And we will see you on Monday for Sign out Day. We will also invite you to join us for ATAR morning team on Thursday 18 December at 10:15am. Year 12 Sign out day – Monday 10 November 9-11am – Library We look forward to seeing all HSC students at school on Monday 10 November from 9:00 – 11:00am for their sign out day in the Library. We ask that students return any school resources, reconcile their statement of account (this has been emailed to parents) as well as donate any quality second hand uniform items that they have no use for - we can donate or sell them to future students. All students should come straight to the Library when they arrive at school. Recognition Assembly Friday 12 December – 10:30am Please save the date for the Recognition Assembly on Friday 12 December at 10:30am in the Hall. This is a whole school assembly. Students will be notified if they will be receiving an award and the parents of award recipients will be emailed an invitation to attend this event and the morning tea to follow. Riverside Arts Night – Thursday 13 November 5:00pm (see ad below) We look forward to seeing you all at the Riverside Arts Night on Thursday evening. It will be a wonderful evening of visual and performing arts with the Art Gallery opening in the gym at 5:00pm and the musical/dance performances beginning in the Hall at 6:00pm.

Ryde Schools’ Performing Arts Festival Choir and Stage Ensemble

Riverside Girls vocalists and instrumentalists took part in the Ryde Schools’ Performing Arts Festival, on Monday 3 November, showcasing Primary and High School dance, drama, music and choral performances at the Sydney Opera House.

Members in our school Vocal Ensemble from Years 7-11 had the incredible opportunity to perform in the Combined Secondary Schools Choir, collaborating with students from Ryde Secondary College and Hunters Hill High. They performed two heartwarming and captivating songs "Speak Out" and "The Sound of Our Home", the latter which was a combined item with the Primary Schools Choir.

Elise H (Year 12) delivered beautiful performances on the violin and viola in the Combined Schools Stage Ensemble. Working closely with a small ensemble of string players, they provided polished accompaniment to multiple Primary choral items such as "Touch the Sky", "Brolga Dance" and "Fly Away Home".

Congratulations to all students involved for their outstanding commitment to the festival! (Photo credit: Combined Secondary Schools Choir performance by Mr. S de Mel)

Schools Spectacular Rehearsal - Qudos Bank Arena

It's been a big week for our dancers at Riverside! On Wednesday our selected Schools Spectacular team made up of Year 7-10 students were at Qudos Bank Arena for their First Combined Rehearsal. It was a great day for the students to rehearse exactly where they are going to perform, as well as get to see hundreds of other schools involved in this great production. With the shows only a few weeks away, out students will be continuing to work hard to get ready for their performances. Don't forget to purchase your tickets at: https://artsunit.nsw.edu.au/schools-spectacular/tickets and we hope to see you there!

Ryde Schools Performing Arts Festival

Congratulations and well done to the members of Dance Company that performed at the Ryde Schools Performing Arts Festival on Monday 3 November. They had a huge day of rehearsals that culminated in a captivating performance of the work Children of the Sky. The manner in which they conducted themselves across this day was exemplary. A big shout out to Brooke B in Year 7, who stepped into a special role at the last minute due to an injury to the original cast member. Brooke helped Denistone East Public School with their performance in a featured role. Well done to all involved.
