Our Welsh Journey Bringing The Old Chapel Back to Life

Trip 2, Part 3: Kitchen, bathroom, and final cleaning...for now

Day 3 is a combination of partial days full of cleaning, running errands, and seeing which cafés have the best lattes.

We put the cabinets back on and set about cleaning. Amy used the sprayer to trap the soot.
We don't have running water at the chapel due to a water leak. This was probably the most disappointing news we received on the trip. I though it would be safer to wet down the soot since I couldn't wear a mask, so we purchased a weed sprayer and filled it with water - and a massive amount of paper towels. The tile looked amazing once it was spruced up. We do need to install a threshold so the tile doesn't break off on the edge between the kitchen and living room - maybe on the next trip.

Amy writes her name, cleans the kitchen, and does little celebration dance.

I knew Greg was doing a time lapse, so I had to dance for quite a while in order for it to be captured. I think Greg did a great job of picking music that would sync up.

After many trips to the hardware stores in town and some trips to stores in other towns, Greg gets the toilet installed.

At one point, I just stopped going to the hardware store with Greg. It really felt like groundhog day and I totally dissociated after the 2nd or 3rd trip. The hardware store has been really great throughout this process, and we've gotten to know the staff well.
We took a break from cleaning to get some accessories. I carried the dragons.
I found this door mat in an art shop on a day trip to the coastal down of Aberystwyth. Aber is only about 25 miles from the chapel, but it takes about 40 minutes to get there due to two-lane roads with lots of curves. You can also walk about a minute from the chapel and catch a bus there! It's a university town, and wow, the university's exterior is magical looking. I can't wait for the restoration of the university to be completed!
We took another break to hike up the public foot path. We didn't venture out too far, but from the looks of things, we may meet some sheep in the future.

Here is an overview of the hamlet, trail, and some sheep!

There is a public right of way that starts at our chapel and makes a full circuit, but for the life of me, I could not tell which way to go once I got to the top of the steep hill that sits behind our chapel. Maybe next time...

This video shows the spaces as we left them for the builders. The exterior and interior spaces where they will be working are cleared out. If you use a bit of imagination, you can picture how the space will look when complete.

Those bags were full of slate when we purchased the chapel - so they have probably been sitting for a couple of years. I had to pull the out of the brambles, and they were so heavy the bags began to break. I emptied some of the slate out so it could be moved without a total disaster.
This is my Luis Hamilton, team Ferrari, pose.
I think the trash bin and skip in the background really capture the elegance of Luis Hamilton's infamous beauty shot.
Trip 2 ends with our adaptation of the classic painting, An American Gothic. We are calling it a Welsh Gothic.
Lucky for me, the woman in An American Gothic looks like she's been through a lot, so I didn't have to try hard to make this artistic interpretation happen.
