For my first image, I created a postcard of my hometown Charlotte, North Carolina, I included key parts of the city along with landmarks and colors commonly associated with the Queen City. I learned many things about using Photoshop in this project, including general aspects of the program like color grading and cutting images, I specifically learned how to use layer masks and embed images inside letters. My goal was to create a good representation of the city while also making it look appealing. I feel good about this project because of the look and feel of it, I think it could use some refining but good overall. I hope my audience sees the city at its best and thinks of the postcard as authentic.
For my second image, I made an image depicting a person listening to music and how the brain also listens and learns from the music. I learned how to use many images and combine them in one piece, I also learned to use the warp feature. My goal was to show how the brain benefits from music as well and how important it is to the listener. I have mixed feelings about the project because I feel the intended message is portrayed but the image looks a bit rough and could be done better. I hope the audience sees someone learning from music as intended.
My third image was a fictional movie poster using four primary colors, mainly using black and white to evoke the sense of the poster being an early 1900s film. I learned color grading to make images of certain colors throughout this project. My goal was to show a movie poster that was specific to a few colors. I like this project because of the way everything blended together, it looks nice and I think I completed my goal for this project. I hope the audience gets a feeling of unease from this piece and its dark seaside atmosphere.
My final project was a book cover for The Shining, using wood layer masks to give the piece a certain aesthetic. I learned how to use layer masks to make specific materials at the forefront of my book cover. My goal was to make a book cover for The Shining using only wood textures as replacements for a standard image. I feel mostly good about this project, the wood looks good and overall looks nice, on the front, there is a lot of small spaces making it hard to make everything look with the wood aesthetic I want, but overall I am satisfied with the final product. I hope the audience feels the wooded aesthetic of the cover and can see the cover in its own style.
