Dear MCS Family,
We’re already two months into the school year and we’re moving full speed ahead.
I want to thank our students, families, staff, and community partners for making our district a place where everyone works together for our students' success. Our board meeting last night was a celebration of the successes and stories that highlight the difference we’re making together.
As a reminder, Fall Break will be from September 23–27, and I look forward to continuing this journey with you all when we return.
Sincerely,
Grant

Student of the Month
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Marietta Center for Advanced Academics student Harrison Burklow as the September Student of the Month.
Harrison is an outstanding student whose positive energy uplifts everyone in the classroom. Whether he is helping a classmate or a teacher, Harrison steps up with kindness and humility, always willing to lend a hand. He faces challenges head-on, giving his best effort no matter the obstacle. His leadership is evident in how he inspires others through his respect and compassion, making him a role model for everyone around him.
The Board of Education congratulates Harrison for being a Marietta City Schools Student of the Month for September.
Student of the Month
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Marietta Middle School student Guilherme Henrique Nepomuceno Silveira as the September Student of the Month.
Guilherme moved from Brazil to Marietta just two years ago, and has shown remarkable dedication to both his education and adjusting to his new home. His progress in mastering the English language is evident, as he has already transitioned out of the ESOL program. Last year, Guilherme ended the school year as an AB Honor Roll student, and this year, he earned a spot in Honors Language Arts. His teachers are confident he will continue his honor roll streak.
The Board of Education congratulates Guilherme for being a Marietta City Schools Student of the Month for September.
Employee of the Month
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Marietta Center for Advanced Academics teacher Annie Verdin as the September Employee of the Month.
Annie embodies dedication and kindness in all she does, consistently going above and beyond for students and staff. Though she's contracted to serve a small group, her influence extends throughout the school—hosting lunch bunches, offering support, and spreading her joy to everyone she meets. She has a unique ability to lift others up, always seeing the best in people and making sure they know they are valued.
The Board of Education congratulates Annie for being a Marietta City Schools Employee of the Month for September.
Employee of the Month
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Marietta Middle School Literacy Academic Coach Sabrena Tichenor as the September Employee of the Month.
Sabrena is a detail-oriented leader and problem solver. She's the kind of person who will dedicate her own time to ensure things are done right—whether it's spearheading literacy initiatives or volunteering during the summer. Her commitment to the Science of Reading process is unmatched, working tirelessly to make sure teachers are prepared to deliver structured literacy to every student. When she’s not coaching JV Volleyball, she’s collecting awards. Formerly with Atlanta Public Schools, she was previously both Teacher of the Year and Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. Now, we’re proud to celebrate her as the MCS Employee of the Month.
The Board of Education congratulates Sabrena for being a Marietta City Schools Employee of the Month for September.
