Call for expressions of interest to host World Habitat Day 2026
UN-Habitat reminds Member States that the call for hosting the global observance of World Habitat Day 2026, under the theme “Adequate housing for all”, is still open but will close soon. This prestigious event offers a unique opportunity to showcase national achievements, share best practices, and highlight pioneering initiatives in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. Hosting provides global visibility, attracting high-level government leaders, UN agencies, and international organizations, while shaping the international conversation on sustainable urbanization and housing.
With 2.8 billion people worldwide facing inadequate housing, the 2026 observance will spotlight urgent action to ensure universal access to safe, affordable housing and basic services.
How to apply: Countries interested in hosting are invited to submit their expressions of interest by 30 November 2025, following the official guidelines available on the UN-Habitat Urban October website, where details of past observances can also be found.
