Boudoir

BY Leanne @ GWS Photography

A Natural Next Step

Over the years we’ve become known for creating relaxed, natural portraits — especially for mums and families — and Leanne has photographed many beautiful maternity sessions. These boudoir sessions are simply a natural next step. The same gentle guidance, the same calm environment… just with a little more focus on you, your confidence, and taking a bit of time for yourself.

A Fully Guided, Private Experience

You don’t need to know how to pose, what to wear, or how any of this works. Everything is guided in a relaxed, private setting, at your pace. Most people arrive feeling slightly unsure — that’s completely normal — but very quickly settle in, and that’s when the most natural, flattering images begin to appear.

A big part of this portrait experience is the discovery calls before the session day. We'll chat and cover posing, outfits - what you'll need to bring and what we have here to make the experience perfect for you.

Your £95 reservation secures far more than just time in the studio. From the moment you arrive, everything is designed to feel relaxed, welcoming and completely unhurried. You’ll be looked after by Leanne and Ali throughout the experience, with gentle guidance every step of the way — from helping you settle in, to posing naturally and feeling comfortable in front of the camera. Leanne is a fully qualified professional photographer with years of experience photographing women, maternity and family portraits, and her calm, reassuring approach is a huge part of why so many clients quickly relax and begin to genuinely enjoy the experience. No modelling experience is needed at all — most people arrive a little nervous, and leave wondering why they worried in the first place. Your session also includes refreshments during your visit, time for outfit changes, and a separate private Design Consultation where you’ll return to the studio to enjoy your images properly on our big screen cinematic display. This is where you can slow everything down, see your photographs for the first time, and choose whether you’d love something beautiful to take home from the experience. Portrait collections and artwork begin from £120, with most boudoir clients typically investing somewhere between £350 and £1500 depending on the style of artwork or collection they fall in love with. Some choose something small and personal, while others decide on striking wall art or beautifully presented keepsakes for their home — there’s never any pressure, simply the opportunity to choose something meaningful if you love what we create together.

Why Women Trust GWS Photography

Choosing a boudoir photographer is a very personal decision, and feeling comfortable with the people behind the camera matters just as much as loving the photographs themselves. GWS Photography has spent more than 16 years creating relaxed, natural portrait experiences for families, babies and women across Edinburgh and East Lothian, with thousands of clients trusting us to photograph some of the most important stages of their lives. Over the years our work has received more than 22 national photography awards across family, baby and portrait photography, but what matters most to us has always been how people feel when they’re with us in the studio. Calm, guided, welcoming and never pressured. Our boudoir sessions bring that same experience into something a little more personal — creating beautiful photographs in a way that feels safe, supportive and genuinely enjoyable from beginning to end.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the session cost?

Your boudoir experience is secured with a £95 reservation fee, which covers your guided studio session, refreshments, outfit changes, and your separate big-screen Design Consultation. Portrait artwork and collections are chosen separately afterwards, with options beginning from £120. Most boudoir clients typically invest between £350 and £1500 depending on the products and artwork they fall in love with.

What should I wear or bring?

Don’t worry — you do not need to arrive with a suitcase full of ideas or know exactly what to wear. We have a selection of drapes, fabrics and starter outfit options here at the studio, and before your session Leanne will give you a quick call to chat through ideas, colours, styles and anything you already have that might work beautifully.

When do I get to see the photographs?

Around a week after your session, you’ll return to the studio for your private Design Consultation, where we’ll show your images properly on our big-screen cinematic display. These appointments are usually held on Fridays and Saturdays between 10am and 7pm, giving you time to relax, enjoy the experience and choose any favourites you’d love to keep.

What if I’m very shy or nervous?

Honestly… most people are. Very few women arrive feeling completely confident, and that’s absolutely normal. The entire experience is gently guided from start to finish, and there’s never any pressure to “perform” or know what you’re doing. Most clients relax far quicker than they expected and end up genuinely enjoying the experience.

Where is the studio?

Our studio is based in a beautiful converted farm steading just outside Edinburgh, with easy parking right outside the door. It’s private, relaxed and far away from the feeling of walking into a busy city centre studio.

I work Monday to Friday — do you offer weekends?

Yes — we do offer selected Saturday boudoir session dates throughout the year. If you can’t see a suitable weekend appointment in the online diary, just get in touch and we’ll happily check the next available Saturday dates for you.

I’m worried about my body shape, size or age…

Please don’t let that stop you. Boudoir isn’t about being a certain size, shape or age — it’s about creating beautiful portraits of real women in a way that feels natural, flattering and confidence-building. Every woman who comes to us has things they feel unsure about before their session, and almost all of them say the same thing afterwards:

“I can’t believe that’s actually me.”

With gentle posing guidance, beautiful lighting and a relaxed approach throughout, our job is to help you see yourself differently — and to leave feeling far more confident than when you arrived.
