Museum Description: My theme for my museum is emotion and images conveying emotion. I chose this because I find art pieces that convey emotion and have detailed facial expressions are very interesting. You can predict and assume a lot just based off of somebody's emotion. I believe that a image can mean a thousand words just based off of emotion. I will expand this idea by picking pieces that show various different emotions. Emotions are endless whether they are animals, men, woman, children, etc. Everyone can show expression and emotion. I intend to use a lot of self portraits or art pieces of other people. The Mona Lisa for example is a great piece showing the expression of a woman and will be feautred in this museum.
Impact Statement: I want my visitors to experience many different feelings and emotions. Maybe if it is a sad artwork where the people are going through a tough time just based of the expressions on their face, visitors might relate to it. Same thing goes if the people in the art piece are happy. I want them to leave with the idea that showing emotion is very important and it is never good to hide your feelings. If your are sad or in pain, get help and let others be aware. It is only human and expressions and emotions are part of human life. Don't try to hide your feelings or emotions. I want my impact on the world to just spread happiness and love. To have the people in need get help and speak up. If you see someone looking sad go and give them a hug or talk to them. It can make a big difference in someones life.
Room 1: Human Emotion
Room 1 is dedicated to artworks featuring real and raw human emotion. Whether it is concern, distress, peace, or sadness, these artworks truly represent the sub-topic and theme of human emotion. It is very likely that these types of artworks pull at the heartstrings the most. Viewers can experience the emotion themselves and even possibly relate to the same feeling expressed in the piece. Seeing human emotion can make people reminisce on when they experiences the same emotions and feeling when looking at an art-piece. I put these four artworks together because they all convey different emotions. Some show horror and sorrow, while the others show confusion, doubt, and calmness. The artworks featired in this room are The Mona Lisa, The Penitent Magdalene, Ivan The Terrible and his son, and The Long Engagement.
The Mona Lisa By Leonardo Da Vinci 1519
This artwork belongs in my museum not only people of its overall popularity, but because of the famous expression on her face. She has almost a smirk expression like almost a smile. Her expression is famous because viewers can be conflicted if she is happy or just having a straight face.
(Context): The Context of the Mona Lisa is known to originally be a portrait of a Florentine merchants wife. It was meant to be delivered to the merchant but Leonardo Da Vinci ended up keeping it and it is now one of the most famous portraits in the world.
The Penitent Magdalene By Titian 1555
This artwork belongs in my museum because of the woman's expression of sadness and how prominent it is. The way that she is looking up to the sky and clenching her heart makes it so much sadder. This is an example of when we feel sympathy for an art piece and possibly can even relate to how she is feeling.
(Form): The Penitent Magdalene By Titan is a Venetian Renaissance style painting. It is an oil painting from the 1560's.
Ivan The Terrible and His Son Ivan By IIya Repin 1885
This artwork belongs in my museum because although it is graphic, the human expression is so horrific and we can truly see the terror in his eyes. It is like we can experience terror and trauma through his eyes alone.
(Content): The content shows the horrific remorse and trauma shock on the face of Ivan the Terrible as he is holding on to his dying son. The son looks betrayed and mortified at what his father has done to him.
The Long Engagement by Arthur Hughes 1854
This artwork belongs in my museum because the couple in this painting show show much emotion together as they are standing by a tree in the woods. They both look concerned as worried. I included this piece because it is quite rare to see the emotion of confusion and stress included in art.
(Context): The painting focuses on a recently engaged couple in the woods by a tree. It shows the troubles and concerns of young love
