Farm Life Reception, Spring Term, Week 10

The children have had a busy week with lots of visitors coming in to see them. On Monday, Farmer Bill visited to share all about life on the farm. He was feeling a bit stressed with the long list of tasks to complete, so the children eagerly volunteered to lend a helping hand. We even had the chance to step into his "office" on the farm...

The children added new fencing to keep the animals in the correct places.
They checked that the plan they had made together looked like it would work.
The animals had to be placed in the correct locations.
The children wrote a 'to-do' list, practicing their dictation skills.
This is a great example, showing their use of red words and phonetic spelling.
The children then went on to make badges to show that they now work at 'Bill's Farm.'

It hasn't all been imaginative exploration of the countryside; we went on a nature trail at Chopwell Woods on Wednesday.

Exploring the great outdoors.

Walking through the woods is a fantastic way of working on our physical development (it’s tricky navigating uneven ground!). Back in school, we also like to stretch and strengthen every day in our outdoor space.

The children's core math skills have been developing well. They took part in 'Number Day' on Friday. Below is a selection of photos showcasing their basic skills from throughout the week.

We'd like to say thank you to a couple of visitors this week. Firstly, to Rachael from The Dogs Trust, who taught us all how to stay safe around unfamiliar dogs.

The Dogs Trust visit.

Secondly, we would like to thank Kiera from the NSPCC, who taught the children about 'keeping private parts private' as part of our PSHE curriculum.

If anyone is able to support us with our Wednesday morning trips to Forest School, we would be hugely grateful. Please remember to let one of us know, either via Dojo or at the classroom door. Thank you!
