CTE Newsletter April Recap

CTSO Recap given by CTSO Officer Adrian Montes

This month has been quite an enthusiastic month for CTSO! To start off, the Financial Literacy Fair and presentations were hosted by CTSO and the College and Career Center for students to learn how to manage their money from local financial advisors to aid them best in the future. And finally, the CTSO banquet planning has been finalized for this end of the year celebration of CTE students and their hard work throughout the year.

Construction

Academy 1 students are currently working on creating customized tote boxes, while Construction 2 students are building functional step stools. Both of these projects not only help students develop practical woodworking skills, but they also offer a wonderful opportunity to create meaningful and personalized gifts. With Mother's Day right around the corner, these student-made items can be transformed into thoughtful presents that showcase ctrativity and care, perfect for showing appreciation to the important women in their lives.

Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine 1, students are exploring environmental issues that can affect athletes, including heat illness, cold exposure, and air quality concerns. They're learning how to recognize the signs and symptoms of related conditions and how to keep athletes safe in a variety of weather conditions.

Sports Medicine 2 students are working toward earning their CPR and AED certification. This important certification not only builds confidence in emergency situations but is also a key step for those pursuing careers in healthcare and athletic training. We're proud of their hard work and commitment to learning these life-saving skills!

Entrepreneurship

The year 1 students finished their business plans as well as working on a few certificates. They then started registering for their MSJC articulation and then took the articulation tests. After completing the articulation tests they moved quickly into career preparation lessons working on resumes, cover letters, interviewing and career research.

Year 2 students worked on a few certification tests, from proper social media usage, to student leadership and leading others and to understanding copyright and trademarks usage. They finished their patent, copyright and trademark lessons, research and presentations. They then started registering for their MSJC articulation and then took the articulation tests.

Theater Tech

Students have been actively engaging in their projects by exploring and refining key elements such as articulation, while also diving into the creative and technical aspects of sound design and lighting design. Through hands-on practice and collaborative work, they are developing a deeper understanding of how these components come together to enhance a performance.

Digital Media

This month, Level 1 students delved into various photography techniques, focusing on the Inverse Square Law. They experimented with how varying the distance between the light source and the subject can dramatically alter the mood and contrast in portraits. To apply their skills, students visited Balboa Park and its museums, capturing dynamic images throughout the day. Meanwhile, Level 2 students have been busy creating original short films and releasing Titan TV episodes more regularly. Both levels continue to develop and refine their digital media portfolios, showcasing their growth and creativity.

Student Spotlights

Ayden "Sunny" Sturms (Construction)

Sunny was voted in as construction manager for the CIE Design Build competition. He received lots of praises for the job he did from people in the industry. Sunny is looking to be the Construction Manager for next years team as well.

Angela Higuera (Sports Medicine)

Angela consistently goes above and beyond in both classroom and lab settings, showing initiative, curiosity, and a genuine passion for the healthcare field. Her strong leadership skills, positive attitude, and willingness to support her peers make her a standout student and an asset to the program. She demonstrates a high level of professionalism, is always prepared, and actively participates in discussions, labs, and group activities. Whether mastering hands on skills like taping techniques or contributing thoughtful insights during case studies, she approaches every task with enthusiasm and integrity.

Jesus Garcia Gonzalez (Entrepreneurship)

Jesus is a great student and now getting to work with him again outside of being in my class has been great. He is a quick learner as I have given him various tasks such as fixing the 3D printers, taking inventory, helping with other machinery in my room, making copies, doing deliveries, and working with students helping them as he's gone through my program. He's always in a good mood, likes to joke around and is always willing to help. Jesus has done an amazing job this year as my TA and I was happy to have him in my class again.

Joehanna Valencia (Theater Tech)

She's a bright and energetic student who does her best to turn in imaginative and complete work!

Lorelai Evans (Digital Media)

Lorelai has really shown growth in her photography skills. Lorelai was able to demonstrate techniques she's learned throughout the class during our field trip to Balboa Park, and generate some great images. I look forward to reviewing her portfolio.
