Tungsten Media Virtual production in 2 hrs!

A group of students and staff from Leeds Trinity University visited Tungsten Studios on Wednesday 15th May for a whistle stop demonstration of Virtual Production at Tungsten Studios in Armley - (TV Production, Film & Digital Marketing)

PROMO25: The Future of Production in Motion Event '25 was provided by Tungsten Studios, one of the largest purpose-built film and photography studios in the heart of Leeds, as part of the Leeds Digital Festival

The team took us on a journey through Ai & Virtual production from start to finish with a well-planned and organised exercise based on creating a TV advert for a new Crisp flavour to air during a World Cup Campaign, from scratch.

We started out with pre-production: defining our product and new flavour, which in our case was Pineapple and Pepperoni

The details were entered into an Ai image generator which applied our new flavour to the chosen packaging (based on another well know tubular crisp brand)

Next, we choose two teams: Italy and Switzerland and asked Ai to provide some bunting created out of the two country flags to adorn our studio set.

These details were then passed onto the production team in the studio who set about dressing our virtual production lounge/kitchen set with the flags and printed the product packaging for the video shoot

A few volunteers from the team supplemented the main actor on set and, following some simple direction, delivered a few killer takes spot on as scripted.

Rather than performing in front of a traditional green screen, or an expensively constructed real kitchen backdrop, the set seamless integrated with the AI generated digital image created in Unreal Engine, on the massive LED screen at the rear of the studio. The camera and background image are all linked together to provide the correct perspective that matches any move by the camera, as you eye would see it.

The takes were sent straight to the editor who very quickly assembled our advert ready for viewing.

We were also royally fed with a wonderful buffet. Thanks guys!

We were also shown what can only be described as a virtual changing room for costume design.

An actor can have a photo taken by a camera then the image fed into Ai with different outfit prompts. This can save hours of time changing from one outfit to another when choosing character costumes for production. Not only could Ai change the clothes, but very realistically reconstruct arms and body parts that were originally covered by the initial outfit.
