PHS GRADUATE APPOINTED AS STATE AUDITOR

We're thrilled to share the exciting news that Jessica Holmes, a proud graduate of Pender High School (2002), is set to assume the role of North Carolina State Auditor on December 15, 2023. Governor Roy Cooper made the announcement, highlighting Jessica's extensive background in government and law.

Hailing from Maple Hill, Jessica has dedicated her legal expertise to public schools, education, workers' compensation, and labor and employment law. With a notable stint representing North Carolina teachers as an attorney for the NC Association of Educators, she's a true advocate for education.

Notably, Jessica serves as a board member and former chair of the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children. As she steps into the role of State Auditor, we celebrate Jessica Holmes and her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on our state. GRANTS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN AT ROCKY POINT ELEMENTARY

🌟 Quick Shoutout to Ms. Tiffany Hansley-Jones from Rocky Point Elementary. Ms. Hansley-Jones snagged a fantastic $500 grant from the Theta Chapter of NC DKG for her "Literacy Through Photography" project. Kudos to Ms. Hansley-Jones for her innovative approach and dedication to RPE students! 📚📸

👏🏻👏🏻Congratulations to Mr. Judy and Mrs. Berdeau! They were both recipients of the Theta Chapter of NC Delta Kappa Gamma grants. Mrs. Berdeau's project "Digital Art for All" and Mr. Judy's project "Bringing the Digitally Connected World to Band Class" were funded through these grants. The grants ($500) will be used to purchase computer mice for each student in Ms. Berdeau's art class 🎨 while Mr. Judy is looking to build up his digital system in order to livestream his concerts and performances 🎶🎵

🌊✨ Topsail High's Matthew Yeager Making Waves in Wind Education! ✨🌬️

📢Here's a bit of an update on THS science teacher Matthew Yeager who was named a 2023-24 Kenan Fellows recipient.Mr. Yeager has been hard at work crafting lessons on offshore wind development along the NC coastline. A huge shoutout to the N.C. Coastal Federation for their conservation efforts, influencing Mr. Yeager's lessons. Mr. Yeager expresses his gratitude for this invigorating journey, promising to share his newfound knowledge with students. Brace yourselves for an educational adventure at Topsail High! 🌎📚

🌲📝 Nte student Shines in NCFA Essay Contest! 📝🌲

Cheers to Graham Nutt, a remarkable 5th-grade student at North Topsail Elementary! Graham received an honorable mention in the NCFA essay contest during Forest Products Week. His insightful essay delved into the significance of sunscreen, exploring how it contributes to society and imagining life without it. Graham not only secured this well-deserved honor but also earned himself a trophy and certificate. A big shoutout to Mrs. Kinlaw, Mrs. Fluke, and AIG coach Mrs. Soles for their support. Congratulations, Graham! The Dolphin Family is bursting with pride for your outstanding achievement! 🏆🐬

🚀In November, we celebrated National Career Development Month with students across the district, encouraging them to explore future career choices. The culmination of this career-focused month saw our students actively participating in the "Pathways to Careers Program" at Cape Fear Community College. It's incredible to witness the journey of our students as they take steps towards becoming the professionals of tomorrow. From Heide Trask High - Special Titan Shoutout to our HTHS HOSA students. They raised $1,000 dollars for Hope Abounds, a Wilmington cancer organization. Way to live the Titan DREAM by empowering others through giving! We are so proud of you! AND... Special Titan Shoutout to HTHS and PHS! Both schools donated numerous items to the food drive challenge in support of Pender Christian Services. Heide Trask High School's donations weighed the most....Way to go, Titans!!!!!

From Malpass Corner Elementary - Due to the short week last week, Eagles of the Week and SOARing Staff of the Week will return on Monday, December 4th. For this week, the Eagles Nest has designated all parents as SOARING PARENTS for your hard work before our break last week and getting students back to school today. 🙂 We need you parents! Monday, December 11 will be our next PTO meeting. We need parents and teachers working coming together to make the best nest for our Eagles. See you at 5:30 on 12/11 in the library!

From Surf City Elementary - First grade is ready for Wit & Wisdom Module 2, Creature Features. They went on a scavenger hunt to discover the new topic and explored the different books on their Chromebooks.
