What happened in School this week?

Forest Explorers - Caterpillars

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had! We looked closely at our faces and made the most amazing self-portraits – with bright colours, funny details and big smiles. During our own play time, our imaginations went wild as we built, created and made up lots of fun games. We even had a fire drill, and we were brilliant at listening and following instructions.

Forest Explorers - Butterflies

This week we’ve been enjoying The Colour Monster! We had lots of fun talking about our feelings and which colours make us feel happy, sad, or even a little bit silly. We also listened to different kinds of music and discovered how it can change our moods. In swimming, we were amazing at blowing bubbles and kicking our legs – there were splashes everywhere and lots of giggles!

Reception

This week in Reception our topic work has been all about our families. We have shared books about families and the children have enjoyed talking about their families and drawing pictures of the people who live in their house. The children have spent time thinking about the people who they love and explaining to their friends what makes them so special.

Year 1

It has been a week of firsts in Year 1! We did our first spelling test which was fantastic - it was clear so much effort went in to learning them. We also had our first Privilege Card, for being polite and thoughtful. The children were very excited to hear that after 5 cards you are celebrated at a special lunch with Mrs Hall! We have worked really hard in Maths counting accurately and pairing up words and digits, as well as enjoying more of our class story together.

Year 2

Year 2 have been looking at place value and numbers up to 100 in maths, using the Dienes blocks and numicon to show the tens and units of the numbers they chose. We also went hunting for living, dead and things that have never been alive in science, building on what we learnt last week and took a trip around school to look at different habitats. We even went up to the Senior School pond with our nets and found what we think was a baby newt!

Year 3

Following on from our rocks walk in science, Year 3 were asked to observe carefully and identify rocks. They learnt about the properties of different rocks and enjoyed discussing which rocks were sandstone, limestone, marble, granite, chalk and slate. They carefully recorded their observations and are looking forward to learning more about the properties of rocks next week.

Year 4

It’s been a fantastic week in 4S, full of exciting learning and hands-on exploration! In science, the class investigated the properties of solids, liquids, and gases by observing balloons filled with water, frozen water, and air—sparking lots of curiosity and discussion. History came alive as we delved into the War of the Roses, with pupils enthusiastically acting out the mystery of the Princes in the Tower and discovering how Richard III became king. In English, we filmed last week’s news reports with a green screen and explored expanded noun phrases and similes to describe the Iron Man, while in maths we continued our journey through place value, now reaching up to 10,000. A special problem-solving session helped us learn the importance of perseverance and embracing mistakes as part of the learning process. The highlight of the week was our unforgettable trip to Hever Castle, where we learned so much about the Tudors. With Forest Fun Day coming up this weekend, we’re all looking forward to another fabulous week at KC!

Year 5

Considering the advantages and disadvantages of AI taking over many human jobs has certainly got Year 5 talking. After much debate they organised themselves into a line of continuum showing their overall view. Those closest in the photograph were pro AI being used for some jobs currently undertaken by humans. Those near the back were strongly against. We have been thinking about this before we read 'Robot Girl' by Malorie Blackman; a text that makes you think about personal data, cloning and human relationships. Other lessons have focused on the Earth , sun and moon, place value in huge numbers and timelines.

Year 6

Year 6 have maintained the hectic pace of last week! In English we continued to study Sabina Radeva's book, thinking about the impact of Darwin's theories and just how radical they must have seemed when he first published them. In science the children tackled evolution from a different perspective, sorting a range of differing species. The tragic life of Frida Kahlo gave everyone food for thought, and Frida in our class was able to teach us about the art work of this incredible artist. Swimming, Spanish, French, music and drama flew by, and a slightly wet match against Somerhill kicked off our hockey season! Here we are enjoying a leisurely walk in the woods and solving an intriguing maths problem.

Club News

Blow Your Own Trumpet!

The Boogie Woogie Bugles Club with Mr Gardiner is the perfect place to discover the joy of brass instruments. Whether it’s the trumpet, trombone, or another brass favourite, you’ll have the chance to make music, have fun, and learn new skills. If you’d like to give it a go, speak to Ms Rivett about how to get started – you could be the next big brass star!

STEM Club

In STEM Club this week the children tested out Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion, that state an object at rest stays at rest until a force is applied, and an object stays in motion until something creates an imbalance. Every action causes a reaction! To do this we built some OUTSTANDING marshmallow catapults! A great deal of resilience was required, but some impressive distances were covered when we tested them.

Chaplain Katie’s Skate Club for Years 5 - 6

Have you got roller skates, blades, a skateboard, or a scooter? Bring them along – everyone’s invited! At Skate Club, you’ll learn cool skills to keep safe while mastering your wheels. Helmets and pads are a must, so gear up and get ready to roll! We’ll be zipping around the Prep School tennis court on sunny days, and if it rains (or gets dark too soon), the Sports Hall will be our skating playground. Come skate, scoot, and roll your way into fun! Thursdays from 4:30pm - 5:00pm and this club is limited to 12 students. Please sign up through the EVOLVE Clubs systems.

Sponsored Walk – Friday 17th October 2025

We’re excited to announce that our much-loved Sponsored Walk will return on the last day of half term!

This 10km community event brings together students, staff, families, and even family dogs (with a suggested £10 donation to PDSA) for a day of fun, spirit, and fundraising. This year, funds will once again support our three chosen charities – Little Princess Trust, All We Can, and Hospice in the Weald, with a special focus on the vital work of Hospice in the Weald this term. Donations will count towards House totals, with points awarded to the House that raises the most.

Have a wonderful weekend!
