Men’s Basketball Picks Up Two Key Conference Wins Over #21 Tufts and Bates
In the Margaret M. Crook Center the Mules put on a show this weekend, first topping the nationally ranked Jumbos 66-64 followed by a nine point victory over Bates on senior day.
Despite the Jumbos leading the entire first half on Friday, Colby stayed close and was able to take a lead of their own to start the second half off back to back Max Poulton triples. For the remainder of the game the teams traded baskets until Marcos Montiel found Lucas Green for a clutch layup and a two point lead with just 30 seconds remaining. The following possession Tufts looked to knock down a game winning three pointer, but Colby's swarming defense forced a game ending shot clock violation. Poulton led all scorers with 20 points (six three pointers), four steals and five rebounds. Liam O’Connell and David Stewart had a huge impact off the bench netting 19 and 13 points respectively.
Against the Bobcats, the Mules got off to a slow start as Bates rushed out to a 12 point lead in the first five minutes of play. Colby quickly responded to regain ground and a three point lead going into the halftime break.
