Cupid Challenge

On Friday and Saturday February 2nd and 3rd, the Mammoths competed at the Cupid Challenge, hosted by Tufts University. The Mammoths competed well across both days of competition!

Heptathlon and Pentathlon

The action kicked off on Friday with the first day of the Heptathlon and Pentathlon. In the Heptathlon opening 60 Meter Dash, Santi Benbow ran a huge personal best time of 7.46 seconds and Alex Robin tied his personal best, running a time of 7.90 seconds! Zach Villegas competed well, running a time of 7.65 seconds! In the Pentathlon opening 60 Hurdles, Morgan Rome set a personal best with a time of 10.63 seconds!

Next in the Heptathlon is the Long Jump, where Zach jumped a season best with a jump of 5.96 meters (19' 6.75"), Alex tied his personal best with a jump of 5.79 meters (19' 0"), and Santi jumped a personal best with a jump of 5.46 meters (17' 11")! Next in the Pentathlon High Jump, Morgan set a personal best by clearing 1.38 meters (4' 6.25")!

Up next in the Heptathlon was the Shot Put, where Zach set a personal best with a throw of 10.86 meters (35' 7.75")! Alex threw a season best with a throw of 9.67 meters (31' 8.75") and Santi enjoyed a personal best with a throw of 7.72 meters (25' 4")! In the Pentathlon Shot Put, Morgan threw a mark of 9.56 meters (31' 4.5").

The last event of the Heptathlon on Day 1 was the High Jump, where Alex cleared 1.84 meters (6' 0.5"), Zach cleared 1.63 meters (5' 4.25") and Santi cleared 1.39 meters (4' 6.75")!

In the penultimate event of the Pentathlon, Morgan jumped 4.36 meters (14' 3.75") in the Long Jump. In the Pentathlon concluding 800, Morgan set a huge personal best, running a time of 2:42! With her points tallied from all 5 events, Morgan set a personal best in the Pentathlon, scoring 2,527 points!

The second day of the Heptathlon started with the 60 Hurdles, where Alex ran a time of 10.34 seconds and Santi set a personal best, running a time of 11.00 seconds! Unfortunately, Zach had to withdraw from the competition due to injury. Next in the Pole Vault, Alex cleared 3.90 meters (12' 9.5") and Santi cleared 3.10 meters (10' 2").

The Heptathlon concluding 1,000 was a fantastic event for both Mammoths, as both Santi and Alex ran personal best times, running times of 2:55 and 3:03, respectively! With the points tallied, Alex placed seventh, scoring 3,957 points, only a few points off his personal best in the event! Santi placed 13th, enjoying a huge personal best, scoring 3,321 points!

60 Hurdles

The Women's 60 Hurdles was a great event for the Mammoths, as Arissa Grace McGowan ran a huge personal best time in the 60 Hurdles, running a time of 9.15 seconds, qualifying for the final! Anaya Thomas ran a strong time of 9.46 seconds in the preliminaries, qualifying for the final as well! In the final, Arissa placed fourth in a time of 9.26 seconds and Anaya placed eighth in a time of 9.54 seconds, a strong display of their strength!

In the preliminaries, Anastasia Ioppolo ran a strong race, placing ninth in a season best time of 9.52 seconds and Olivia Steele placed 13th, running a season best time of 9.82 seconds!

In the Men's 60 Hurdles, Michael Gerfen had a great day, running a personal best time of 8.82 seconds to place second in his heat and qualify for the final! In the final, he placed eighth in a time of 9.00 seconds!

60 Meter Dash

Rachel Hubley enjoyed a successful day in the 60, running a collegiate best time of 8.08 seconds to place second in her preliminary heat! Mia Bawendi placed second in her preliminary heat as well, running a personal best time of 8.15 seconds! Olivia Tennant also enjoyed a strong day, running a personal best time of 8.40 seconds to place third in her preliminary heat!

The Men's 60 was successful for the men as well, as Theo Woodward set a personal best with a time of 7.25 seconds, qualifying for the semi-final and Ben Williams set a personal best too, running a time of 7.40 seconds! Theo ran well in his semi-final, running a time of 7.32 seconds to place eighth!

Weight Throw

The throwers enjoyed a strong day and started in the Weight Throw, where David Brown placed third with a personal best throw of 15.72 meters (51' 7")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi set a personal best too, throwing a mark of 14.49 meters (47' 6.5"), placing ninth! Jacob Shine placed 26th with a personal throw of 12.03 meters (39' 5.75")! Alex MacDonald placed 39th with a throw of 10.63 meters (34' 10.5").

In the Women's Weight Throw, Beth Martin placed 10th with a throw of 12.41 meters (40' 8.75"), Emma Ramsingh placed 19th with a throw of 10.97 meters (36' 0"), Deb Thayer placed 23rd with a huge season best throw of 10.79 meters (35' 5"), and Isabella Niemi set a personal best with a throw of 9.30 meters (30' 6.25"), placing 31st!

Jacob Shine continued his successful day, placing seventh in a personal best throw of 13.41 meters (44' 0")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed 20th with a throw of 11.89 meters (39' 0.25").

Emma Ramsingh placed third in a personal best throw of 11.23 meters (36' 10.25")! Isabella Niemi and Beth Martin placed ninth and tenth with throws of 10.13 meters (33' 3") and 10.07 meters (33' 0.5")! Deb Thayer placed 17th with a throw of 9.24 meters (30' 3.75").

Rachel Hubley led off the Women's 4x200 Relay, putting the Mammoths in the lead, which they never relinquished! Rachel passed the baton with a great handoff to Mads Rabb, who ran a strong second leg. Mads handed off to Paige Clark, using another strong handoff, who continued to run strong and she passed the baton to Halle Hanna, in yet again another strong handoff, who anchored the Mammoths across the finish line in a winning time of 1:48!

Mile

Next on the track was the Mile, where Stan Craig used a great kick to place second in his heat and set a personal best with a time of 4:21! Josh Thomas placed seventh in the same heat as Stan, running a time of 4:27. Harrison Talcott moved up steadily throughout his race and employed a big kick with a lap to go to win his heat in a time of 4:28, earning his first win! Sam Young placed third in the same heat, running a season best time of 4:30.

In the Women's Mile, Ona Ortiz-Gudeman ran an incredible race in her first race in 9 months! Ona steadily moved up in the race as it continued, and was within 20 meters of the race leader with two laps to go. With one lap to go, Ona was only 5 meters behind the race leader and used a fantastic kick to seize the lead and win her heat in a time of 5:26! Annika Paylor competed in the same heat and also ran well, steadily moving up the field and running consistently each lap, placing fifth in her heat in a time of 5:39!

400

Jai Dreher placed third in the 400 in an indoor personal best time of 51.24 seconds! Tom Ye competed well and placed fourth in his heat in a time of 53.67 seconds!

In the Women's 400, Artis Phillips placed fourth in her heat in a time of 1:06, and Chanelle Jaeger placed second in her heat in a time of 1:06 as well.

Only two Mammoths competed in the 600 and both crushed it, as Ben Davis and Kolya Markov-Riss placed first and second, respectively, in the 600! Getting out hard, the duo asserted themselves in the lead going into the second lap of the race, and pulled away from the field with each step as the race continued. Ben used a strong final lap to win in a time of 1:21, which is fourth All-Time at Amherst in the event! Kolya placed second in a strong time of 1:22!

1,000

Parker Boyle competed in his first 1,000 ever and led from gun to tape, winning in a great time of 2:31! Gent Malushaga competed well and even after getting tripped up, placed ninth in a time of 2:38! Sam Young competed in the second heat and placed second in a time of 2:39!

In the Women's 1,000, Zoë placed second in a deep field, running a great time of 2:57! Bella Lozier placed eighth in the same heat, running a season best time of 3:05! Emma Vatnsdal ran a great race, moving up through the field and using a big kick to place second in her heat in a personal best time of 3:11!

Theo Woodward continued his strong day in the 200, placing third in his heat in a time of 24.08 seconds!

Long Jump

Adrian Friedman led a strong Mammoths contingent in the Long Jump, placing third in a season best jump of 6.68 meters (21' 11")! Yeob Kim placed fourth with a jump of 6.66 meters (21' 10.25")! Kaleb Barrett placed sixth with a jump of 6.32 meters (20' 9"), Michael Gerfen placed 23rd with a jump of 5.59 meters (18' 4.25") and Isaias Wooden placed 27th with a collegiate best jump of 5.48 meters (17' 11.75")!

In the Women's Long Jump, Anaya Thomas placed 13th in a legal personal best jump of 4.90 meters (16' 1")!

Triple Jump

Michael Abbey won the Triple Jump with a season best jump of 13.38 meters (43' 10.75")! Adrian Friedman placed eighth with a jump of 11.95 meters (39' 2.5").

Anaya Thomas placed second in the Triple Jump with a great jump of 11.15 meters (36' 7")! Anastasia Ioppolo placed fourth in a season best jump of 10.83 meters (35' 6.5")!

High Jump

Gabe Dos Santos made his season debut, clearing 1.81 meters (5' 11.25"), clearing that bar on his second jump!

In the Women's High Jump, Anaya Thomas and Leah Smith both cleared 1.52 meters (4' 11.75), placing eighth and ninth, respectively!

Pole Vault

Mia Bawendi competed well in a deep Pole Vault field, placing sixth by clearing 3.55 meters (11' 7.75") on her third attempt at the height! Mia also made several good attempts at 3.65 meters, a great sign of her progress!

Harrison Dow ran a strong race in the 3,000, setting a personal best with a time of 8:45, placing ninth in a deep field! Drew Stephens placed fifteenth overall in a time of 8:53 and Paolo Canigiula placed ninth in his heat in a time of 9:49.

In the Women's 3,000, Bella Lozier paced the first 1,200 meters of the race to help teammate Julia Schor run at the pace she desired to run at. Bella's pacing was spot on and Julia ran a fantastic race, winning in a huge personal best time of 9:59, her first time breaking 10 in the event! Daphne Witherell ran a strong race in the same heat, competing well and closing hard to run a great time of 10:35!

4x400 Relay

The Men's 4x400 was composed of all middle distance runners, and together they combined to place third in their heat and fourth overall! Ian Dopp led off for the Mammoths, and got the team in third place. He passed the baton to Gent Malushaga, who ran a strong leg to keep the Mammoths in third place. Gent passed the baton to Parker Boyle, who ran a strong leg too! Parker handed off to Kolya Markov-Riss for the anchor leg, and Kolya got out hard and ran a great anchor leg, bringing the Mammoths across the finish line in a time of 3:30!

The Women's 4x400 was a great race for the Mammoths and Eliza Cardwell led off, fighting hard to put the Mammoths in first place! She passed the baton to Myeh Medina, who ran another strong leg, extending the Mammoths lead! Myeh passed the baton to Christa Prasertsintanah, who ran a stellar first race as a Mammoth and extended the lead for the Mammoths even more! She passed the baton to Zoë Marcus for the anchor leg, and Zoë ran a strong leg, bringing the Mammoths across the finish line in a great time of 4:00, ending the meet on a win for the Mammoths!

UP NEXT for the Mammoths is a big weekend where the team will compete at two meets: the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th and the Field and Track Meet, hosted by Middlebury College, on Saturday, February 10th.
