Headteacher Comment
This week, we enjoyed a day of Black History across the school, the theme of which this year is 'Celebrating our Sisters', so each class learnt more about a significant female figure. You will see below that we have learnt about women as diverse as Ella Fitzgerald and Oprah Winfrey, as well as Michelle Obama and the world beating Simone Biles, among others. We have been marking Black History Month every year for a very long time at Greenfields Primary School and Nursery, and we do have a curriculum that does try to ensure that everyone's stories are told, no matter what their cultural background is.
Mr Hughes and the Year Three and Four teachers are busily contacting families to introduce them to a brand new partnership with Northampton Town Football Club: the 'Multiply Project'. The programme works with children and their families to help develop their mathematical skills and understanding of maths. Parents learn to support their children's growing understanding. This is a great opportunity to learn alongside your child and also learn how to support them effectively. Ian Crow (NTFC), who is the project leader of the Multiply Project, will be at Parents' Evening next week, so please ask for more information then.
I am looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday and Wednesday next week at Parents' Evening. Please do make an appointment on MCAS or, call the Office if you are experiencing difficulties with the app.
Have a lovely weekend.
Who Wants a Car?
You get a car! You get a car! And you get a car! Everyone gets a car! For Black History Month, Year Five spent the day looking at Oprah Winfrey. From growing up in poverty to being the world's FIRST black billionaire I think it's safe to say that she is an inspiration!
Black History Month in Busy Bees and Dragonflies
This week in Reception, we learnt all about Ella Fitzgerald. She was a famous singer that was born in 1917 and went on to make over 100 albums. We learnt about her past and listened to some of her songs. We had so much fun learning one of her songs, painting an American flag and making a letter for a loved one just like in the song we learnt.
Throwing Skills
This term, the children in Year Two have been practising their throwing and catching during their PE lessons. We have all worked brilliantly with a partner to practice our throwing and catching technique. This week we practiced an underarm throw.
Pumpkin smashing
This week in Ladybirds lots of fun was had exploring pumpkins. The children were given big spoons and plastic spoons and plastic knifes to attempt to open up the pumpkin. They managed to make a little hole which they looked through. It was dark inside, when the pumpkin was opened they found it was "cold" and "slimy" and full of seeds.
DRET Netball Tournament
The Year Six netball team attended the DRET tournament this week. The Greenfields team came 3rd Place and walked away with a Bronze Medal. Well done Year Six!
Top Gymnasts
Year Four have been enjoying gymnastics this term. This week they have been exploring star jumps, tuck jumps and pike jumps. The class are now looking forward to creating their own gymnastic sequences using all the new skills they have learnt this term.
Team Work
Cheeky Monkeys explored team work this week. The children worked together to make a structure that held a marshmallow on top! The most important part of this was that they could not be holding the structure. The children also looked at team work within the animal kingdom and how they could apply this in school.
Magic Magnets
Meerkats have been doing some Magnet Magic this week, from levitating paper clips to making things move without touching, Marvellous Meerkats are really enjoying exploring magnets.
A bit messy in cooking club…..
This week the children made chocolate rainbow cakes. They were, quite simply, delicious. Especially when we got to lick the spoon.
Studious in Six
This week Year Six began writing in their final draft books. They worked so hard to ensure perfect presentation and excellent content. What great role models they already are!

Google Classroom
Google Classroom is where you will find Flipping Greenfields and the rest of Greenfields' amazing virtual classrooms full of chat and lots of hard work! You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:
Home School Agreement
As we become more used to our online way of working, we thought it was important to add to our home/school agreement (that you signed when your child started at Greenfields) to include online learning. Please follow the link below to complete this short addition relating to online learning with Greenfields Primary School and Nursery.
Class Code and Google Link
These have been updated for the classes in 2023-24, so click on the link for the class you will be in in September.
Teachers always look forward to posting their ‘Flippin' Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
