CMCA Center for Maine contemporary art

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art has been supporting, exhibiting, and sustaining arts and artists with ties to Maine since its founding in 1952. In that time, CMCA has grown from presenting shows in barns and backrooms in Rockport to becoming the state’s preeminent contemporary arts museum, hosting a slew of highly acclaimed artists along the way.

In its move to downtown Rockland in 2016, CMCA expanded its audience and community service, allowing it to continue its mission on a whole new level with rotating exhibitions featuring emerging artists of our time.

The move to Rockland has provided us with the opportunity to expand connections to the Midcoast community through events and education programs. Rockland’s Art Walk, active downtown business organization, and year-round population all contribute to CMCA’s ongoing success.

Art Workshops for All Ages

CMCA strives to continue as the leading non-collecting contemporary art museum in the state of Maine providing exhibition opportunities for emerging artists from and connected to the state.

Being physically not on main street, our visibility challenge means we rely on visitors being encouraged to know where we are and how to visit us.

We welcome everyone!

A sandwich board on Main Street along with development on side streets would be a great help to expanding street traffic in the city.
