What sets Country Club of Detroit apart? PROFESSIONAL LIFE AT CCD

Excellence in Facilities

Country Club of Detroit resides in a 1927 Smith, Hinchman & Grylls (today’s Smith Group) Tudor revival masterpiece that includes some of the best finishes of the Arts and Crafts era. Resplendent murals are featured in both clubhouse dining rooms, paling in comparison only to the Zodiac murals seen in the grand entryway, masterfully painted by Frederick Dana Marsh.

Our Members enjoy an 18-hole championship golf course redesigned by Renaissance Golf in 2010; a nine-hole executive course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1957; eight Har-Tru tennis courts; platform tennis; pickleball; and a resort-style pool complex that facilitates both family fun and competitive swimming.

Three distinctly unique restaurants showcase the wide-ranging talents of the Club’s culinary team throughout the clubhouse and the seasonal Poolside Grille.

Our Members are also treated to a state-of-the-art fitness facility and a six-alley bowling center, both of which keep the Club a hub of activity year-round. Members and their invited guests are also able to make use of the Club’s six overnight rooms, including one apartment-style suite.

The Caliber of the Professional Staff

Country Club of Detroit has gained a reputation as an employer of choice in a busy club market due to its commitment to the professional staff. Nearly every department leader on property is a product of progressive growth from outside the organization, hired into their first lead role; or, more commonly, developed and promoted from within. This commitment to growing leaders is a point of pride with Members and staff alike, and is reflected in outstanding Member service.

An Engaged Membership

In many ways, Country Club of Detroit is a generational club. With the clubhouse and golf course being such an important part of their family life, Members are quick to contribute to their well-being. Nearly a decade ago, CCD introduced a donation-based fund — the 1897 Fund — to address Member-facing amenities and restoration that may otherwise have been beyond the Club’s capital budget.

Since its inception, the Fund has raised well over one million dollars. The Club’s charitable foundation benefits the education of young people, and has endowed a full scholarship to the Evans Scholars Foundation.

Country Club of Detroit’s charitable foundation has endowed a full scholarship to the Evans Scholars Foundation, and the Membership remains highly committed to the cause.

Adaptability to Changing Times

Over generations, Country Club of Detroit has had to reimagine itself, partially or completely, more than once. Formerly located on the shores of Lake Saint Clair, yachting was once a key feature of the Club. As it moved inland, a natatorium and Polo field were two of the grandest Member amenities, aside from the Colt Allison golf course.

Today, Members enjoy year-round activities and state-of-the-art facilities in a setting that truly takes one back in time. Much of the work undertaken falls into the category of restoration, which has allowed one of the nation’s great classic clubs to retain its old-world charm. Once inside, Members have the choice of fine or casual dining, and family- or adult-focused experiences.

At Country Club of Detroit, one feels transported back in time but with all the comforts of modern life. The Fitness Center features state-of-the-art equipment in a historic space, and even the Club's casual dining room evokes a sense of history and specialness.

The Overall Experience

Over 800 of Country Club of Detroit’s 1,000 Members live within minutes of the Club, making the Club truly an extension of their homes. It is not unusual to see a Member in three or more areas each day; with this frequency of use comes feedback. Coupled with technology, the professional staff and the departmental committees have an excellent window into the Member experience, and strive continuously to improve, impress, and exceed expectations.

Good company is at the heart of Country Club of Detroit, providing a space for family and friends to enjoy and celebrate each other and their special shared bonds.
