The Pocket Press Term 2 | Week 2 | 2025

Inspiring - Inclusive - Empowered

We acknowledge the Minjungbal people, of the Bundjalung Nation, who are the original custodians of the land on which the school proudly stands. We raise our hands to the sky that covers the Aboriginal land. We touch the ground in the care of the Aboriginal land. We place our hands on our hearts in love of the Aboriginal land.

Monday Assembly Awards

From the Principal:

ANZAC Ceremonies

Thank you to our families that attended the Dawn Service during the holidays. It was an incredibly thoughtful service that saw our leaders do an amazing job of leading the other schools.

School Ceremony

Another massive shout out to our Year 6 leaders for their efforts in leading our ANZAC ceremony. Thanks to Nikki Perin for her work in running this special event.

The Arts:

Compass Music Festival

Amy Cox and the choir are heading to Woolgoolga for the Compass Music Festival on Tuesday, 3 June. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to perform on the big stage with other schools. Thanks Amy for organising this opportunity.

Dance Troupes

Kate Gallagher has been working over time with her two dance troupes - senior and junior. They are looking amazing as they move towards their first event, The Winter Festival. This is the second year of a three year plan to have our students perform on the big stage at Department of Education events in 2026! Thanks Kate for this amazing opportunity for our students.

Sport

Cross Country

Our cross country team are off to run at Teven Tintenbar in the Headland's Carnival on Friday, 16 May. If your child's name is on the list, be sure to sign the note and pay the fee on school bytes.

Soccer

Thanks to Ms Lou and Nikki for selecting the boys PSSA team. Their first game is against Mullumbimby on Monday, 19 May. The selection trials were tricky, with almost 30 boys trying out from year 3-6.

The girls team will go straight through to the first game with out trials.

Basketball

The Pocket Basketball team play against Ocean Shores this Thursday. We wish them the best of luck!

Gymnastic

We have once again secured a grant to run our sports program for the term. This term Spaghetti Circus will be attending and working with each of our classes on a gymnastic program. They start next Monday.

Olympian Visits

That's right, tomorrow we have an Olympian coming to talk to our students about his journey in sport. He has played in three olympics in water polo - can you guess who it is?

Parking and The Pocket road

Just a reminder to park safely when picking up and dropping off your children. Never let your children leave the front gate without you, regardless of their age.

A reminder to give way at the causeways, cars travelling east has right of way apart from the very first bridge.

Attendance

Please see our updated school attendance procedures below. As we move through the term, we will be reviewing these with our students leaders to gain an insight into what part our students play in attendance.

Winter Festival

We are moving even closer to the greatest event ever! The exec team are meeting later today to discuss all the finer details and start the push for volunteers, sponsors, prizes etc. Be sure to stay connected through School Bytes (school based communication) or Flexi Schools (P & C based communication).

The Pocket turns 125!

That's right, we are officially old! We are planning a huge day. To start with we are looking for past and present families and students to send through a short video. See the flyer below for all the details!

Raffle Tickets at The Pub

Just a reminder, if you would like to be involved in selling raffle tickets each Friday of May at the Billi Pub, contact Will. This is a stand alone fundraiser offered to us by the Billi Pub. Thanks to those families that came down on Friday and made a night of it, staying to have dinner afterwards.

Wellbeing

John will be in Each Thursday this through to week 5. He is funded by the P & C to work with students nominated by school staff on friendship, emotional literacy, transition and role modelling. If you would like your child to be considered please see Will.
