Colmore Junior School autumn term: week: 5

Highlights of the week

South Birmingham Football Champions!

What a spectacular end to last week! A huge congratulations to our football team who put on an outstanding performance at the South Birmingham 6-A-Side competition. The team won every single one of their four qualifying games to reach the final, where they secured a phenomenal victory, adding the school's name to the shield once again. We are incredibly proud of their teamwork and dedication! Thank you to Mr Smith for his excellent coaching and the time he gives.

A Week of Learning and Leadership

The children have had another busy and productive week:

National Poetry Day: We celebrated National Poetry Day on Thursday with great enthusiasm, and the children engaged in some wonderful poetry writing of their own, demonstrating creativity and flair.

Hampton Court Visit: A small group of children enjoyed a fascinating visit to Hampton Court.

Play Leaders, Prefects, and House Captains: Our newly appointed Play Leaders had an excellent afternoon of training and are now fully equipped to support lunchtime activities, ensuring all children have fun, engaging games to participate in during break times. During Monday's assembly, I presented badges to newly selected prefects and our elected House Captains. We are always so grateful when the pupils step up to perform these roles in school.

Please note that the Girls' Football Competition has been postponed and will now take place next week.

Have a lovely weekend!

J Gale

5H have been working hard this week on written calculations, and hoping to impress Mrs Hopwood with their presentation. Fantastic independent calculating, and definitely getting ready for larger numbers.

A small group of children from across school took a visit to Hampton Court this week to find out a bit more about Henry the Eighth’s Palace. They explored the palace and the grounds including the famous maze and magic garden.

A giant pumpkin!
4H worked collaboratively in small groups in their gymnastics lesson this week. They had to create balances and work in unison to make these fantastic sequences.
We have been celebrating National Poetry Day across this week. Here is a wonderful class poem created by 5H based on every day objects. This lovely example is all about a corkscrew!

Two boys from 4R were so inspired by the poem they had been studying that they turned it in to a rap which they then performed in assembly.

In assembly this week, Mr Gale welcomed our latest team of leaders. Our Prefects and our House and Vice Captains. They are all looking forward to taking on their new found leadership responsibilities.

Congratulations to our boy’s football team who won the September Cup last Friday, 1-0, 2-0, 5-0, 3-0 and 3-0 in the final against Wheelers Lane but even more importantly demonstrating a fantastic attitude to all the teams and players. Massive thanks to Mr Smith for his coaching and support, as always.
This young lady from Year 3 has worked so hard today at her spellings that her teacher just had to share with the rest of the school. Well done!

This superstar was so inspired by his English lessons this week he went home and wrote this super poem.

At Eco Kids Club, they have been working on improving the biodiversity of our school site. This week they planted a range of herbs in our Forest School space to try and attract more pollinators. They can’t wait to share the photos once they’ve grown!
We were delighted to receive this award through the post from the Society of Authors. We were nominated by Kev Sutherland for our Reading for Pleasure offer at school and the way in which reading is so well embedded across the key stage.

Messages from the office

Where possible, please make sure children are happy with their meals choices when selected ahead of time by parents. We have had a lot of children wanting to change their dinner choices with the office.
