Human Rights Day is celebrated each year on December 10 to mark the world’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. The UDHR was a bold promise that every person is born with equal dignity and rights, & it remains a global guide for freedom, justice, & equality. We celebrate this day to honor that commitment, recognize our progress, & reflect on the work that remains.
A Milestone Document in the History of Human Rights...
Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly.
Watch and listen to people around the world reading articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in more than 80 languages.
Eleanor Roosevelt's leading role as Chairperson of the drafting committee of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been well documented. But other women also played essential parts in shaping the document.
