REMINDER: WORLD BOOK DAY

Just a reminder that we will once again be celebrating World Book Day in school, which takes place this year on be Thursday 7th March. Children have the choice to come to school dressed as their favourite hero or villain. Or if they would prefer, choose a colour to represent this character. Wear blue to be a hero and red to be a villain!

We are also setting all of the children a 'World Book Day Cover Up' task to complete at home. The challenge is to design a new front cover, blurb and recommendation for the book of their choice. We will then display these in each library. Children will earn their house team a point for returning their 'cover up' homework which will contribute towards the winning house team. Please click the button below for a copy of the homework sheet.

In school, the children will be taking part in a house team quiz to earn more of those all-important house points and also buddy reading sessions where classes from different year groups join up to enjoy books together.

YOUNG VOICES

A group of Year 6 pupils travelled to Sheffield Arena to take part in the Young Voices concert, the largest children's choir concert in the world! They have been practising the songs in the weekly club since last term. It was a fantastic experience for the children and we are very grateful to the staff who accompanied them.

HELP THE HOMELESS

As mentioned in the last newsletter, the next project our Community Champions would like to support is to help homeless people in Goole. The Help the Homelezz group are asking for donations of biscuits as their stocks of these are very low at present.

If you would like to help, please bring packets of biscuits into school before Friday 1st March and the Community Champions will gather them together to take to the charity.

SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENDANCE 🔦

Please see below for the attendance data for the last week of term. The overall school attendance was 96.95%, which is really encouraging. Special mention to 2P for their 100% attendance! 🥳🥳🥳

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM EAST RIDING SAFEGUARDING TEAM

We have been asked to pass this information on to our community.

We have been made aware of a concern regarding a National WhatsApp group. One of our schools have been alerted by parents to a WhatsApp group their children are being added to, that currently has 800+ members.

This appears to be asking users to add all their contacts to create the largest group in the world (WhatsApp can currently have a max of 1024), without adults being present. The concern is the content within the group - the majority of users appear to be minors, although there is no way to verify this. Aside from the general bad language and online bullying and harassment, there is evidence of racist, homophobic and sexually explicit language, plus pornographic images / GIFS.

A reference to 'bomb plans' has also been noted - this appears to be racist in nature, particularly in response to when a comment has been made by an Asian member. Police have been alerted to this , but wanted to make you aware as you may wish to share this with your school community.

Thank you, Safeguarding in Education Team
