Our 1,800-strong workforce proudly builds about 3,000 hybrid and combustion engines every day powering popular vehicles like Highlander, Sienna, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Tundra, Tacoma and Sequoia.
FROM AUTOMATED LOOM TO AUTOMOBILES
From a young age, Toyota’s founder, Sakichi Toyoda, held a strong ambition to improve life for others. Watching his mother weave textiles, he saw the opportunity to mechanize the process for efficiency and to ease the burden on the worker. In 1896, Sakichi invented Japan’s first power loom and continued to innovate the technology and process by inventing the non-stop Type G shuttle loom in 1924.
THE START OF SOMETHING BIG
Toyota Alabama broke ground in 2001, cranking out its first engine in 2003. Since then, the plant has expanded multiple times and is now home to a $1.5 billion production facility.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING IS WHAT WE DO
At Toyota Alabama, we use high-tech manufacturing systems to produce some of the most advanced engines on the road today. With Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), we’re making ever-better products through smarter, more flexible manufacturing and innovation in powertrains.
WORKING WITH ROBOTS
Our team works collaboratively with robots to ensure safety, reduce fatigue and increase efficiency. Robots also perform some of the repetitive production processes, such as moving parts. These robots are also programmed by our own Toyota Alabama employees.
LET’S MAKE A BETTER PLANET
In October 2015, Toyota announced the global Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050. At Toyota Alabama, that means supporting our environmental focus areas: REDUCTION OF CARBON, WATER CONSERVATION, REDUCING MATERIAL WASTE and SUPPORTING BIODIVERSITY.
Watch the video below to see how Toyota Alabama is minimizing its environmental footprint.
WHAT TOYOTA IS DOING TO REDUCE CARBON
We improve fuel efficiency and use hybrid technology to reduce CO2 emissions from our vehicles. We are always looking for innovative ways to cut energy and fuel usage and reduce CO2 emissions from our manufacturing plants and logistics operations.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO REDUCE CARBON, TOO
Make your carbon footprint a little smaller. Turn off a light, change out a bulb and make your next vehicle a hybrid.
WHAT TOYOTA IS DOING TO CONSERVE WATER
At Toyota Alabama, we are constantly researching ideas for water conservation, especially in our manufacturing processes. Our goal is to use fewer and fewer gallons, each year, to produce our engines.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO CONSERVE WATER, TOO
Turn off a faucet, and if you water your plants or lawn, make it early in the day.
HOW TOYOTA REDUCES WASTE
Toyota is always looking for ways to reduce waste, from the largest manufacturing site to the smallest office. Toyota Alabama is a zero landfill facility, where we recycle everything from metals and plastics to converting used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO REDUCE WASTE, TOO
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Reusable water bottles and grocery bags every time!
HOW TOYOTA SUPPORTS BIODIVERSITY
Toyota Alabama’s biodiversity efforts support the unique balance of plants, animals and ecosystems. The facility is also certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT BIODIVERSITY, TOO
Make your yard pollinator-friendly. Plant native plants and trees, especially species that attract butterflies and bees.
STEM EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Toyota Alabama focuses on STEM education and workforce development to create a strong community and a strong pool of future employees. Since 2003, we have partnered with local and state organizations to introduce students to STEM careers. We use interactive displays, career panel discussions, and plant tours to highlight what it’s like to work at Toyota.
IMPROVING OUR COMMUNITIES
Utilizing their time, resources and expertise, our people are actively engaged in charitable causes across our community, from supporting workforce readiness initiatives to helping alleviate food insecurity, and addressing mobility challenges – our community partnerships are central to improving the places we call home.
MOBILITY FOR ALL
At Toyota, we believe when people are free to move anything is possible. Our engineers and designers are relentlessly focused on not only making our vehicles safer and more accessible but also developing the future mobility products that will ensure everyone has the freedom to move, engage, and explore.
