FINDING FUTURE BOBCATS

On October 12th, we hosted our Fall Prospect Clinic—a beautiful day to show potential future Bobcats what life at Bates is all about. The day included skill work, a campus tour, lunch in Commons, and a scrimmage. We welcomed players from Georgia, Texas, and of course, right here in New England!

COMMUNITY ENGAGMENT

TRUNK or TREAT at LOST VALLEY

This fall, we volunteered at the Lost Valley Trunk or Treat, something our team looks forward to every year. It’s a great way to get out into the community and connect with local families. Our team has a blast every time!

PINK FEATHER

We recently volunteered with the Pink Feather, an organization that provides clothing to children in the local school systems. We look forward to volunteering with them every year, and they are currently in the process of moving to a larger facility. We can’t wait to help out again in the spring once the move is complete!

"Having the opportunity to work with the Pink Feather Foundation was a team-bonding experience that I am very grateful to have. The work that they do for the local community is inspiring. It was motivating to help a force that makes such a profound difference in so many people's lives" - Maddy Miller - Sophomore - Norway, ME

FALL PRACTICES

We wrapped up our 10 practice days on October 23rd. While we’re sad the fall is over, we had a fantastic time focusing on small-group drills, live at-bats, and pool recovery workouts. The team will continue working on their own as they prepare for the season, which begins with first practice on February 2nd and first pitch on March 15th in Florida at the Spring Games.

STUDY ABROAD HIGHLIGHT

New Zealand

My name is Maya Lee. I am from Wayland, Massachusetts. And I am a Junior on the Bates Softball team. This fall I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Wellington, New Zealand! I spent the holiday breaks and practically every weekend hiking and exploring. During the mid-trimester break, I did a road trip with my friends all around the North Island of New Zealand, where we went skydiving, skiing and lots of hiking. Before I left I also got the chance to go to Australia. My friend Mia (who runs cross country and track for Connecticut College) and I went to Sydney, Brisbane, and Cairns. During our time we saw and made friends with so many incredible animals. Here are just a few! Overall, it was genuinely one of the most incredible four and a half months of my life! I not only took risks and did things I’ve never done before (i.e. jumping out of a plane and swimming with green sea turtles), but I also learned so much about myself by traveling and living in a completely different environment. In addition, since seasons and trimesters are different in NZ, I was there from June 30th to November 8th. During my break before semester 2 starts, I went up and visited Bates and now I am currently traveling through Europe visiting my teammates in London, England and Italy! After the craziest 6 months of my life, I can’t wait to get to playing softball and catch up and spend time with the team :) Thanks for following along! Best, Maya Lee #10

NOVEMBER EVENTS

Basketball season kicks off in November, which means we’ll be running concessions to help raise funds for our trip to Florida for the Spring Games. If you’re at a game, be sure to stop by and grab some popcorn! Thanksgiving Break is quickly approaching, and our students will be heading home for the week. It’s a great opportunity for them to spend some much-needed time with friends and family before returning for finals!

Fresh Look. Same Bobcat pride. 🐾

A Note from Coach McKay to Our Alumni

Dear Bates Softball Alum, I hope this note finds you well! As we continue to build upon the strong tradition of Bates Softball, we want to create a special connection between our current student-athletes and those who helped pave the way. This season, we’re inviting each of you to write a letter to the current Bobcat who now wears the jersey number you once proudly wore. Your note could be a piece of advice, a favorite memory from your playing days, words of encouragement, or even lessons you’ve carried with you from Bates—whether from the classroom, the field, or life beyond. Our goal is to help our student-athletes see themselves as part of a bigger story—one that began long before them and will continue long after. Your letter will serve as a reminder of the pride, resilience, and community that come with being a Bobcat. Please send your letter to us by December 31, 2025 so that we can pass it along to our players during the season. Thank you for continuing to be such an important part of our program. Your legacy lives on in every pitch, every swing, and every Bobcat who takes the field today. Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat. 🐾❤️ With gratitude, Katharine McKay Head Softball Coach
