Welcome to our penultimate newsletter of the half term. We’ve drawn breath in September and arrived here!

I had the enormous pleasure of attending the Harvest Festival at St. John's Church last weekend. Of course, the thing I was most delighted with was the opportunity to share the fantastic donations provided by everybody involved with Birkwood. A huge thank you, this will help lots of families at a very tricky time! A superb message that sums up our value of 100% kindness. Truly humbling!

Another wonderful piece of news is the opportunity to congratulate and say a huge thank you to our very own Mrs. Birch. Mrs. Birch has clocked up a remarkable 35 Years of service to Barnsley Council and the borough’s people. As well as working with vulnerable adults, it is coming up to 23 years at Birkwood helping our children and families in her own unique way. An amazing and special achievement. We send many congratulations and much love to Mrs Birch. Here’s to 23 more!

A plea to families to pass a message on - a parent has raised concerns of children riding bikes in the playground at pick up time. Please reinforce the message of cycle safety in the playground.

Well done to the Year 1 & 2 Handball team; they had a great afternoon in the tournament last week. Their brilliant efforts earned them a 3rd place. Really well done.

On the sporting theme, we came second in our football league match at Cherry Dale Primary. Well done to everybody involved. And better luck next time.

Remaining with football, we have celebrated the work done by Shaka Hislop and his fabulous charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card.’ Thank you to everybody who has chosen to wear red and raise awareness of something that needs to get better, not only in football but in society as a whole.

Our School Council & Wellbeing Ambassadors were able to enjoy a fabulous lesson this week in the form of CPR instruction. This was thanks to a brilliant sharing of the idea through one of our lovely families. The children were great and high inspired by some terrific instruction. A fantastic initiative.

This week’s BINGO was just brilliant. A special thank you to Miss Taylor, Mrs. Whitfield, Mrs. Sefton & Mrs. Shaw as well as the BINGO players! A fantastic £500 was raised! An amazing achievement.

BINGO - Eyes Down!

Year 3 Jemison & Year 4 Wonder enjoyed their class trip to Skelton Grange - exploring and learning about the Stone Age. A fantastic day out. Really well done to everybody for their superb behaviour.

We have also updated next half term’s clubs. Let us know if there are any issues around Arbor & we shall try to rectify them.

We have details of Barnsley Family Hub's activities for the October half term holidays for your children and families. Some brilliant activities on offer!
