Headteacher's Message

Mr A Moloney

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a good week?

Work on the new build is progressing really well and is on time for a handover of the first new building for April 2024. There is a lot of work to do before then, in terms of building completion and setting up routines for us to manage the school day when pupils return after the Easter break. As previously shared with parents and carers pupils will be asked to stay at home for an extra week after Easter, (returning now on April 28th), to help us undertake preparations in the new build. We are confident that the new build will provide us with an outstanding learning environment for the future of our school.

The children have had another good week in school and we have started to look at Advent and what it means in our Catholic school. We have a number of planned services and events to help us celebrate the birth of Jesus and look at our responsibilities at this time of year. I’m sure we will all really enjoy the preparation over the next weeks, before we break for Christmas on December 20th at 1.30pm (transport teams have been informed of the earlier end to the term).

Next Friday, 6th December we have a special Mass in school. We will welcome into school Bishop John Arnold, the Bishop of Salford, to celebrate mass in school and to bless the commemorative stone, which will be placed in the new building next March. After Mass we will have a small reception with the Bishop with some pupils and parents and we have prepared pupils at this time to share some of their poetry with the Bishop. A lovely opportunity for the school to showcase our many pupil talents, during his visit to school.

In 2 weeks time we have a coffee afternoon planned, with the Hospitality BTEC group making refreshments for any parents and carers who would like two join us informally for the afternoon. The event will take place on Friday 13th December at 1.45pm.

Finally, can I remind you please that we are currently supporting two charitable activities through Advent. We are collecting nearly new and new toys for a Salford Childrens’ charity and also collecting coats for the homeless to support the most vulnerable members of our community, who have no homes and are often street based. If you have any coats or toys to donate please send them into the School Admin team and we will forward them to the charities identified. Thanks in advance of your generosity and support.

Best wishes for the weekend

Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

Highlights of the Week

Our Catholic School

Our prayer focus this week is:

'Jesus leads us to go out from ourselves more and more, to give ourselves and to serve others, leading us on our journey towards eternal life'

-Pope Francis

The Chaplaincy Team is very busy getting ready for Advent and for our visit from Bishop John, Bishop of Salford. Bishop John is going to spend the morning with us on Fri 6th of December, deliver Mass, have a meal with staff, parents and Governors and Bless a Commemorative stone for our new school building. A very busy morning and a very important guest!

Within RE this week, we have been undertaking MAD time! Which is 'Making A Difference' to our work. Pupils have reviewed their work on Holy Souls, Saints, Remembrance and inspirational people, read their written feedback and then tried their best to improve upon their work.

This week's Wednesday word is 'Advent'

Poetry Corner

This week’s poetry corner is dedicated to Autistic Poets past and present. As so many of our pupils are neurodivergent, it is import to explore and be inspired by the amazing work of such writers.

Emily Dickenson – Autism?

Emily Dickenson was an American poet and is considered one of the most important writers in literary history. She wrote nearly 2,000 poems and her poetry was extremely unconventional for her era, in both format and themes. When they were first published, they were significantly edited to be less controversial. The original poems were published many decades later, long after her death. Modern scholars, following the developments in neurological sciences and the discovery of the autism diagnosis, studied her personal life, letters and correspondence and revealed she fitted the criteria for an autism diagnosis. Many of her poetry can be read following this development as struggles with an autistic life in the 1800’s.

Dominic Walsh -Am I Invisible?

Dominic Walsh is a writer and actor on the autistic spectrum. His poetry has been displayed in Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester UK and he has contributed reviews of books, TV and audio plays to scifipulse.net. Dominic is involved with the theatre company Theatre of the Senses that runs in Manchester and will soon appear as Cassio in Theatre of the Senses’ adaptation of Othello. The Art of Autism

Useful Information

Winter Coat Appeal

This year we are supporting 'The Wellspring Charity for Homeless'. The Wellspring supports people that are homeless or at risk of losing their home. We are asking for your support by donating any unwanted adult winter coats. If you have any coats that are still in good condition, but no longer needed, please consider donating them to help others stay warm this winter. Please send your unwanted coats into school by December 13th and we will collect them at School and then pass them through to the Charity before Christmas.

Your generosity will make a real difference to those facing hardship in our community. We appreciate your kindness and support in making this initiative a success. To find our more information regarding the charity click here.

The Great SJV Toy Appeal

As we approach Advent, we would like to put our Faith into Action by running ‘The Great SJV Toy Appeal’. We are hoping to provide families, that are struggling financially, with toys for their children at this special time of year, through the charity ‘Revive Community Refuge’. We will therefore be asking for donations of toys that are no longer used at home and are in good condition or a new toy. Please send your donations into school by Friday 13th December. We will then deliver the toys to Revive in good time for them to be distributed to families before Christmas. Thank you for your generosity in advance.
