In Loving Memory Of Our Falling Hornet
The loss of our Hornet was a sudden and heartbreaking shock to our school & community. It was a moment that reminded us how deeply connected we were and how grief can touch everyone differently. In the midst of this loss, our school came together in a powerful way. Through this experience, we partnered with Dr. Smith-Moore, our school behavior specialist, and grief counselors who came to support our students. Healing Haven became a safe space for those who didn't feel ready to talk, but still needed comfort. Healing Haven provided attractive ways to cope such as games, quiet moments, or shared laughter. Students found ways to cope and begin healing. While this was done as a part of HOSA, it became something far greater. It gave us a true opportunity to serve our school community, support one another, and learn healthy coping methods during a time of grief. Healing Haven became a place of hope when we needed it most.
About Healing Haven
Healing Haven is an online mental wellness initiative created by HOSA students to support young people struggling with loneliness, isolation, and daily stress. Healing Haven is a student-driven movement committed to reshaping how young people experience and talk about mental health. Built by youth, for youth, platform creates a space where honesty is welcomed, growth is encouraged, and support feels genuine rather than clinical. Through engaging digital content, open dialogue, and shared experiences, Healing Haven meets young people where they already are—online—and turns those spaces into hubs of awareness, resilience, and empowerment. It is more than a platform; it is a community rooted in compassion, connection, and the belief that every young person deserves access to understanding, encouragement, and hope. We provide:
- Mental health information that's easy to understand.
- Positive social media content and podcast episodes.
- Coping activities and self-care ideas.

Understandi-ng Social Isolation
Social isolation is the lack of social contact or feelings of disconnection from others --- emotionally, mentally, or physically. It’s not the same as simply being alone; isolation often means feeling unseen, unheard, or unsupported.
Facts
- Social Isolation increases the risk of depression by up to 40%.
- Teen loneliness has doubled since 2010, linked partly to online pressure and pandemic recovery.
- Isolation can affect both mental health (sadness, anxiety) and physical health (weakened immunity, poor sleep).
Rick Factors of Social Isolation
- Bullying or exclusion at school.
- Moving or transferring schools.
- Losing friendships or family connections.
- Mental Health struggles like social anxiety or depression.
- Over reliance or social media for validation.
- Negative Early Experiences/ Trauma.
Social isolation occurs when someone feels disconnected from the people around them. It isn’t just being physically alone—it is about feeling like you don’t belong or can’t share your thoughts and experiences with others. Teens might experience social isolation if they have trouble making friends, feel misunderstood, or are excluded from social groups. Over time, this lack of connection can affect mental health, making it harder to manage stress, build confidence, or stay motivated. Social isolation can also make everyday challenges feel bigger, creating a cycle where teens withdraw even more, which can impact both emotional well-being and daily life.
Protective Factors of Social Isolation
- Strong peer support or mentorship.
- Safe online spaces for connections (like Healing Haven!).
- Confidence in social skills.
- Family and community involvement.
- Emotional self-awareness.
Understanding Stress

Why It Matters?
When left unaddressed, social isolation and stress can shape how teens think, feel, and connect with the world. Healing Haven helps break that pattern by offering community, coping skills, and creative outlets that make mental health support feel safe and real.
