Sponsored Walk

Well done to the whole school for their good spirits and enthusiasm at the Sponsored Walk today. It was beautiful weather as you can see from the picture above, taken by Mrs Hayes. To date £1,120 has been donated on JustGiving. Any further donations will be hugely appreciated and funds raised will go towards the three school charities this year. These are Hospice in the Weald, Little Princess and International Education. Look out on social media next week for lots more pictures of our walkers!

HALO Lecture

HALO students were captivated by a lecture on The Magic of Colour this week, delivered by Director of STEM, Mrs Connelly.

Lower Sixth Biology

Lower Sixth Biologists have been studying mitosis in garlic root tips. One of their required practical skills is to prepare a slide of a garlic root squash to view the chromosomes. They then have to draw the chromosomes.

Business Studies Visitor

Eleanor Lister, a partner at Berry & Lamberts Solicitors, visited Kent College this week with trainee solicitor Mia, to inspire our Business Studies students to explore careers in law. She shared valuable insights into the various pathways within the legal field, highlighting the importance of qualities such as integrity, resilience and empathy, as well as essential skills like critical thinking, communication and negotiation.

Eleanor also emphasised the importance of internships and networking; encouraging our students to seek work experience to develop the skills and attributes necessary for success in the legal profession.

House Music

Energy levels ran high after the Sponsored Walk for the annual House Music Competition. Danes, Celts and Saxons all showcased their incredibly talented musicians and vocalists and had a fiercely fought House Song. The afternoon ended with staff singing a rousing rendition of We will Rock You!

The winning house was Celts. Congratulations!

Spanish Visitors

Our Spanish visitors headed back home last weekend after a three week stay to experience life in a British boarding school. It was a delight to welcome them and see how well they settled into classes across three year groups. They ended their stay with an afternoon tea in the boarding house where they shared their experiences and received a certificate for the completion of their stay. They told us that their English (and accent!) had improved, they made friends with local students, developed independence and liked the kind teachers and friendly people.

The Soroptimist Club

This week the Soroptimist Club continued to discuss self-care and journaling and decided to undertake a 15-day challenge over our half term break.

Our club members are going to think of actions that they will complete which will improve their mental health. For example, go for a walk, reconnect with family and friends, dancing or sports to boost their mood and reduce stress.

They also made bath salts which they will gift to someone special or use themselves!

Year 8 African Drumming

Year 8s have been learning about African Drumming and have composed pieces in groups, using call and response and polyrhythm. This piece by Emily, Holly, Rosie, Violet and Issy was particularly good.

Boarding Fun

Having waved off our Spanish guests after a Karaoke party on Friday night, some of our boarders went to pick some pumpkins to decorate for the house on Monday evening - they looked spooktacular after we lit the candles inside!

On Saturday evening, the whole house became chefs by making pizzas in the boarding house for dinner, we hope to include some more cook your own dinner style evenings next term.

Halloween Bake Sale

The bake sale last week raised £110.20 for our school charities. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

The Wellbeing Hub

PageTurners Book Awards - Sponsorship Request

PageTurners, is a themed book award for secondary schools in the local area which Kent College students enter every year. The event is aimed at promoting a love of reading and literacy among local students and is run in schools across the area between the Autumn term and the Gala event in March.

Each student attending the event will receive a book token from Sevenoaks Bookshop. To make this possible, PageTurners are seeking sponsors to cover the cost of gifting a book to each child in the form of a book token redeemed on the night. Sponsors will receive recognition through marketing materials, including social media, local press, and at the Gala event. If you think you can help with sponsorship, please click here for more details.

Have a great half term break, see you on Monday 4th November!
