"Why did you name it Mantis Massage?" I named it 'Mantis Massage Therapy Clinic' because of the logo. While I was in massage school, our assignment was to create a logo for a practice, including color schemes, logos, fonts, and so on. I had been looking at a massage chair from the side, and in my mind’s eye, I saw a praying mantis hidden in the silhouette. I decided to draw that and use it as the logo.
My Story
It all started with my father's chronic neck and back pain. He had suffered from neck pain since he was 16 and endured a blown spinal disc in 2013. I watched him struggle daily just to work and live life but he pushed through with strength and resilience.
In 2015, he began seeing a massage therapist, and for the first time in years, he experienced real relief. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, he had to stop going. That stuck with me.
In May 2022, as I graduated from high school and faced the daunting question of what to do with my life, my mother encouraged me to explore career paths. Massage therapy quickly stood out, and surprisingly, it became one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made. By August 2022, I had enrolled in massage school.
It wasn’t easy, much more bookwork than I expected, but it was incredibly rewarding. I graduated in May 2023 and began working as a medical massage therapist for a holistic medical practice in June. Over the next year, I treated many clients with chronic pain and muscle tension, deepening my understanding of the human body and how pain interacts with our physical systems.
By December 2023, I felt called to begin building my own practice, specifically, one that could offer affordable care to those who need it most. I worked over 50 hours a week between my full-time job and part-time clients, slowly growing my practice. I rented a space at Vybe Med Spa right here in Montrose, CO. Initially, my plan was to launch full-time in 2025, but God had other plans.
After much prayer and reflection, I felt strongly that it was time. I left my full-time job on August 30, 2024, and by September 2, I had officially opened my practice full-time, Monday through Friday and every other Saturday. I only had 10 clients booked when I made the leap, but I told God that if He wanted me to do this, I’d need the clients. By September 2nd, my schedule was completely full for the week, and then the next, and the next. Since September 2024, I’ve maintained a full schedule, serving at least 15-20 clients a week, all while keeping my prices accessible to those who might not otherwise afford regular massage care.
