Late Monday morning, seven activists — including two Yale students and one unhoused individual — were arrested on New Haven Green for criminal trespass in the first degree, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer and violating the city ordinance against erecting temporary structures in parks as a part of an ongoing encampment protesting New Haven’s homelessness policies. The arrests followed nearly two weeks of tensions between the city and encampment participants, who felt New Haven Police Department’s early Monday intervention was unjust and timed to exploit participants’ vulnerability.
