February 2025 @BVNLibrary This month started with tons of research work with AP classes and Design Thinking with juniors. Then we moved on to catapults and Breakouts! Read on to learn more about our busy month!

AP Lang Annotated Bibliographies

Students in AP Language classes worked on a research project complete with an MLA style annotated bibliography. Students worked in the library to get their citations formatted properly before submitting their finished work! This is great knowledge to have before entering college as many professors require annotated bibliographies as assignments while reviewing literature.

AP Lit Research Process

Students in Mrs. Worthington's and Mr. Smith's AP Literature classes continued the research process this month by using PowerPoint as a tool for note-taking, writing properly formatted Works Cited pages for their papers, and using the outline view in PowerPoint to turn their notes into paragraphs. Students loved the ease of this tool and the feedback we received showed that many students feel prepared to write research papers in college!

ELA 11 Design Thinking

Students in ELA 11 clarified their ideas for a Project Based Learning activity by working through a design sprint with librarians. Students started by solving the parking lot problem in small groups and learning the steps of the design thinking process. Then students applied the same steps to their own project and each student completed a project that improved the school in some way.

Physical Science - Element Research

Students in Mr. Ocon's Physical Science classes created an interactive periodic table in the hallway by combining the work of his students in all 3 classes! Each student researched a specific element and created a foldable that mounted to the wall. Students passing by could open the flaps of the foldable to learn about the elements.

Algebra 2 - Catapults

Students in all Algebra 2 classes spent time making catapults in the library.

Students used videos of their catapults in action and LoggerPro software to calculate the quadratic regression of their catapult.

Then they used their regression equations to calculate where the ping pong ball would land if we elevated the catapult! Students received points for the number of times they hit the target in 3 tries.

AP Psychology - Close Read

Students in Ms. Salimbene's AP Psych classes prepared for the AP test by learning close reading strategies in the library. Students applied the strategy to the AP scoring guide and then used their knowledge to evaluate questions. Many classes have practiced close reads this year and the skill is repeatable and always beneficial for every student.

Psychology - Breakout

Students in Ms. Salimbene's Psychology class played Breakout EDU to practice observing behaviors while working together. Both teams broke out!
