Ever since the first MTV Video Music Awards Ceremony in 1989, the award show's red carpet has been a place for the entertainment industry's hottest stars, and promising prodigies to display their most daring, socially defying looks. This year is no different. From sheer looks, causal concepts and the trusty go-to suit, the pink carpet has shocked us once again. It's not everyday that the VMAs is celebrating their 40th anniversary, so let's begin with Megan Thee Stallion.
Megan Thee Stallion blessed the pink carpet in a sheer black dress with corset boning covering the whole dress. She matches her dress with a silver chunky collar necklace with matching earrings, bracelets, rings, and hairpiece. Stallion also adorns silver stilettos with a bedazzled cuff on the ankle. Her nails are in a square shape with a black chrome french tip. Her nails and silver accessories pull the dress together to make it into one classy and cohesive outfit.
Tefi Pessoa is a content creator that has been dubbed as ‘Tik Tok’s Big Sister’. She gives brutally honest advice, and deep dives into pop culture relationships. She attended the VMA’s in a black matte chiffon dress with a square neckline and open back. Her dress is floor length with a small trail made out of the same fabric. She pairs her dress with a big statement necklace that is made out of a wavy gold band that wraps around a big stone in the middle. She pairs the necklace with matching mother - of - pearl earrings.
With her latest album ‘Guts’ skyrocketing at an alarming pace, Olivia Rodrigo was expected to make a statement at the VMAs. And she definitely did. Rodrigo wore a floor length sparkly gown with a scooped neckline. She doesn't wear any jewelry, as it would take away from her dress, and make her outfit too ‘busy’. The dress does it all for her.
Selena Gomez, established singer, actress and founder of the well- renowned makeup empire, Rare Beauty, shone on the pink carpet. Gomez wears a red sparkly halter top dress. The dress features a low cut neckline and straps that take the shape of flowers and leaves. The hem of the dress straps just above the knee with long strands of fabric flowing down to the carpet in the shapes of vines. Gomez pairs her statement dress with red satin heels, and silver earrings that take the shape of butterfly wings.
Keyshia Cole is known for her 2005 hit 'Love' becoming an official platinum record by the RIAA. Cole takes to the pink carpet in a simple outfit; a black sheer top that has side cutouts, a small black long sleeved shrug, black cargo pants that cover her shoes. She accessorized her outfit with a diamond chain that has her initials 'KC' on it, silver hoops and diamond rings.
Pink Pantheress is a small underground artist that blew up with her hit single with Ice Spice titled "The Boys A Liar". Pantheress wears a brown 2ks inspired halter dress. The dress appears to be made out of silk, and has a laced up look adorning the bodice of the dress. At the bottom of the dress there is a tulle hem in a lighter brown color, and has a small train. Pantheress accessories her trendy look with a large cross necklace, simple nails and a few dainty rings.
Late 2ks and early 2010's pop superstar Shakira has finally come back into the limelight. Shakira wears a gold dress with geometric cutouts on the side of the dress, with a long slit that starts on her upper thigh. Her dress has a small train in the back. Shakira pairs her golden dress with matching golden platform pumps, and dainty gold rings.
Emilia Vaughn is an up and coming artist that has released eight songs. She is studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Vaughn wears something more light and airy than other stars at the VMA's. She wears a peach colored dress that has a sweetheart neckline and overlapped fabric placement all along the bodice of her dress. On the side of her dress she has a large 80's inspired bow that perfectly melts into the slit on the side of her dress. She matches her outfit with clear platform heels with a diamond encrusted bow on top of the shoe, and silver jewelry to match.
With her new song 'Bongos' featuring Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B has yet another smash hit. At this year's VMA's, Cardi B wears a dress that has many shiny, silvery components on it like pearls, and metal clips. The dress is floor length, and has matching silvery arm bands.
Don Toliver is one of the most recognizable voices and flows in the rap industry. His recent collaborations with well-renowned producer, Metro Boomin and rap prodigy, Travis Scott have proved just that. Toliver wears a matching red jacket and pants combo with a classic white button down shirt. His shoes are a similar maroon color to his jacket/pant combo. He accessorizes his outfit with an intricate chain depicting angel wings around a red orb, and classic black sunnies.
Myles B. O'Neal is one of Shaquille O'Neals many children. O'Neal is a model, DJ and television personality. O' Neal wears a very casual outfit, much like one would wear to try to avoid the paparazzi. He wears a varsity jacket that has 'Golden Dreams' embellished on the right side of his jacket. The jacket sleeves also feature many of his fathers wins. He pairs his jacket with a light blue shirt with paisley print, navy blue slacks, and black shoes. O'Neal's accessories include an orange bandana, bedazzled sunnies, and a dark blue denim bucket hat.
Saweetie has had many hits in her discography such as 'Best Friends' featuring Doja Cat, 'My Type' and 'Tap In'. She wears a pink shimmery halter top dress with a bone sculpture on her neck and a smaller one near her waist, cinching the dress. She pairs her chic cavewoman dress with matching heels, silver hoops and long, white bedazzled nails.
Trolling the internet with her new hit single, 'Paint the Town Red', Doja Cat has been releasing banger after banger. 'Agoura Hills' and 'Demons' being her two most popular songs off of her new album, 'Scarlet'. Doja Cat wears a shredded dress that resembles spider webs along with clear heels, silver jewelry and equally ethereal makeup. Her nails give a pop of color to her otherwise white outfit.
