Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 20th October 2023

SPORTING STARS

We have had some amazing sporting success in the last two weeks. We are extremely Parkside Proud!

First of all, huge congratulations to the netball team who came in second place in last week's tournament. A fantastic achievement; well done to all for your hard work and commitment.

Then this week, our Year 6 girls put in an amazing performance to win the Goole football tournament. They went unbeaten, winning four matches and drawing one. They showed fantastic teamwork and team spirit, which is always wonderful to see. Thank you to Mr Webster and Miss Thornton for accompanying the team and for all of your encouragement. Go Team Parkside!

OUTDOOR EXPANSION FOR RECEPTION

We are excited to let you know that we are expanding the outdoor area for the Reception classes. Hopefully we will have a new fence up after half term. Keep an eye out in future newsletters for updates about the changes.

____________________________

BAGS & COATS

Now that we are moving into colder weather and the children are wearing winter coats, space in the cloakrooms is more limited. Please can we ask that children only bring the minimum items they need (water bottle, snack and book bag) without a large bag.

____________________________

PLEASE LABEL CLOTHING

Please can we remind parents to label clothing and other items with their child's name so that we can help reunite them with their owners at the end of the day.

BRITAIN GET TALKING

For World Mental Health Day, ITV’s Britain Get Talking and YoungMinds’ #HelloYellow have collaborated to help children across the country open up. Together with teachers and a clinical psychologist, they’ve created a piece of homework like no other. A conversation starter for children to take home, designed to help them talk about the hardest subjects on their minds with their parents or trusted adults. Because sharing worries can help ease stress and reduce anxiety.

Take a look at the video below, and then we would like everyone to have go at this homework over the half term holiday. The link to the worksheet can be found under the video. Get talking this half term!

SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENDANCE 🔦

Very well done to classes 1HU and 3O who have managed a 100% attendance week in the last fortnight. The overall school attendance has also risen, which is very positive.

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

FOOD ASSISTANCE

The Two Rivers Community Pantry is a project is aimed at providing support to those who are in need of some assistance through these challenging times.

To find out more visit www.tworiverscommunitypantry.org.uk or speak to school about making a referral.
