Football Takes Third Straight Win, Downs Amherst with Last-Second Field Goal
After decades of falling to Amherst each time the two squad met, the Colby Football team has firmly redirected the path defeating the Mammoths for the third straight time.
The first half saw Colby's only points come on its final drive of the second quarter, cruising 75 yards in just under three minutes for a Thomas Keeling rushing touchdown. The Mules entered the break down 9-7.
Amherst extended its lead to 16-7 early in the third quarter only to have Colby answer right back with a 13-play, 84-yard drive to pull within two (Locksley Burke 2-yd score). The score remained that way for most of the fourth quarter until the Mules got the ball for one final chance, converting on four first downs to drive from their own 12-yard line and give Christos Tzoumakas a chance at a game-winning kick with seconds remaining. The first-year kicker split the uprights to send the Mules over .500 with three consecutive wins.
Thomas Keeling has now won all three of his starts since being named quarterback back in week three.
The Mules are now 3-2, good for fourth in the NESCAC, and are set to host the 0-5 Hamilton Continentals next week for Homecoming.
