Assistant Headteacher's Message

Mr G Damant

Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope you and your families are keeping well and looking forward to Christmas. A time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, spend time with loved ones and be thankful for being part of the SJV community.

During the third week of Advent, we have been focusing on the theme of Joy. Staff and pupils alike have been reflecting on how they can bring happiness into our school and the lives of those we meet. With the help of the Holy Spirit we pray that we can spread Joy throughout the world.

Our final week of this term has seen pupils participating in a plethora of amazing opportunities including; a trip to see Sleeping Beauty at Stockport Plaza, Class trips, Christmas Mass and Christmas Dinner. I don’t think any other school does Christmas Dinner quite as well as we do here at SJV and our Kitchen staff really did us all proud with a fantastic, freshly cooked dinner that was delicious! 2024 has been a fantastic year at SJV; the new building is almost complete, pupils continue to make excellent progress and our positive reputation in the community continues to grow. These things are only possible because of your ongoing help and support.

Our interim pupil reports for the Autumn term were sent out earlier this week. We hope they will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and be able to discuss any concerns or worries you have identified in the report with the Class teachers.

We look forward to welcoming pupils back for the Spring Term which starts on Monday 6th January 2025 at 9am.

Finally, on behalf of all the governors and staff I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

God bless,

Mr G Damant, Assistant Headteacher

NEW BUILD INFORMATION

We have now been given a provisional date for the handover of the new build to the school, which will be during the Easter Holidays, 14th April 2025.

We will need to plan with the builders, Kier Construction, on how we will manage this move and it is highly likely that we will need the days after the published Easter break, (which is Friday 4th April to Monday 21st April), to manage the move. That will mean that all pupils will not be able to return to school after the Easter break until Monday 28th April 2025. We are writing to inform parents of these dates, which I will confirm officially with you at the start of the spring term, in January 2025. If you have any concerns with these plans please do let us know.

  • Do not give children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
  • Do not give nuts, nut products or snacks/bars containing nuts for break time snacks.
  • Do not send cakes or food items, containing nuts, in to school for birthday celebrations, cake sales or events.

Highlights of the Week

Thank you for our fabulous Christmas Dinner; Jo, Jaz, Nehza and Dave.

Our Catholic School

Our prayer focus this week is:

'Read the gospels! This way we will learn what is most essential in our lives; love and mercy.'

-Pope Francis

As always, it’s been a very busy week at SJV with class trips out a pantomime as well as lots of work in class. It’s now the time to relax and enjoy the last week of Advent at home and prepare for Christmas.

The Chaplaincy Team helped to prepare two Christmas Masses. Mr Moloney gave out his rewards to the students to recognise those who have gone above and beyond. Then after the service we enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal together in our Key Stages, prepared by our hard-working kitchen team. It was such a wonderful festive occasion and certainly put us in the mood for Christmas.

Within RE this we have been focussing on the Nativity story and the real meaning of Christmas. We have looked at what we should be grateful for and what gives us Joy for the future.

I hope you have time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas with Jesus’ love and spend some quality time with your families. I wish you all a very happy Christmas.

This edition of the Wednesday Word will cover the Christmas period:

  • 18.12.2024
  • 25.12.2024
  • 01.01.2025

Mrs Garfin

Poetry Corner

In our final poetry news of 2024 we can reflect on an amazing year of poetic achievement here at SJV. The launch of our first ever school poetry anthology has inspired our new pupils to begin their own poetic journey. We are so proud that the amazing performances over the last few weeks have lit the spark of poetry across the school as we look forward to an exciting year ahead of workshops and competitions.

Mr S Donovan

Dear All,

On January 21st next year, we will be having our latest review by the National Autistic Society. This is a very important event for the school, as it validates all the hard work we have done to support our autistic pupils. Please look out for the information leaflet (see below) that has been sent home with more details about the review and information on how you can help.

Kind Regards

Mr Donovan (Accreditation Lead)
