Memphis Fellows Program Second Presbyterian Church

The Memphis Fellows Program is a Christ-Centered and intensely practical nine-month leadership and development program for recent college graduates.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to equip Fellows to apply and integrate a Christian worldview into all areas of life. Through graduate courses, internships, life on life community, and service opportunities, our Fellows are getting both knowledge and hands-on experience learning how faith and work intersect.

INTERNSHIPS

Internships provide a practical space for Fellows to work out the concepts they learn in class about the intersection of faith and work and the idea that work is a gift from the Lord. Mondays to Thursdays are spent in a paid workplace internship, typically from 8:00am-5:00pm. Internships are arranged by the work placement committee in your field of interest.

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." - Colossians 3:23

GRADUATE COURSES

Fellows will have seminary-level core classes on the topics of Christian Worldview and Overview of the Bible. They are taught by Assistant Pastor David Bowen, Assistant Pastor Barton Kimbro, and Pastoral Executive Todd Erickson on Fridays.

Before classes on Friday, morning seminars are presented by Christian community leaders who share their personal testimonies and workplace experiences with the Fellows biweekly. On Friday afternoons, Fellows will visit different ministry and non-profit partners to get a vision of faith and work intersecting.

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." - 2 Peter 3:18

LIFE ON LIFE

Host Families

Host families provide a wonderful opportunity for the Fellows to experience life with people striving to serve Christ in the midst of their own challenges, joys, and failures. Host Families from the church provide free room and board for every Fellow.

Mentors

Each Fellow will get paired with a mentor and will get to choose how much time they want to meet together. Mentors walk alongside Fellows, joining with them in prayer, discipleship, and discernment of God’s leading for their future.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.” - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

We want our Fellows to cultivate a desire to serve others as a result of how they are loved and served. As a Fellows class, you will volunteer together monthly at a local ministry and greet at the church’s evening service. In addition, each Fellow will get to volunteer weekly at a nonprofit of his/her own choosing.

"For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” - Mark 10:45

DON'T FORGET THE FUN!

The Fellows year is full of practical life lessons and Biblical thinking, but it is also filled with many fun retreats! Each year, Fellows will go on a Micah 6:8 Retreat, a Vocational Discernment retreat, women's and men's retreats, Nashville Retreat, and a Civil Rights Pilgrimage as well as an opening and closing retreat as a class. Retreats are a great way to form bonds within your class and within the Fellows community!

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." - Acts 2:42

LOCAL CHURCH

The Memphis Fellows Program takes place through Second Presbyterian Church, a Christ-centered, Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), founded in 1826 whose mission is to Retell The Gospel, Reimagine The Church and City, and Repair What Is Broken. Morning services are at 8:15am and 11:00am, and evening service is at 6:00pm. Learn more about the Second Presbyterian Church.

"The household of God, which is the church of the living God, [is] a pillar and foundation of the truth." - 1 Timothy 3:15

TUITION AND APPLICATION

The tuition for the 2PC Fellows Program is $6,700. This includes a $200 non-refundable deposit that is due when an applicant returns his/her signed contract accepting a position in the program. Half of the tuition ($3,350) is due by September 1. The rest is made in eight monthly payments (October-May).

The tuition may be paid by the Fellow or may be raised in the same way support is raised for a mission trip. Upon request each Fellow receives a fundraising packet after their acceptance into the program.

If you are interested in visiting us in Memphis or would like to get in contact with a current Fellow, we would love for you to contact us at fellows@2pc.org!
