Colmore Junior School autumn term: week: 1

Highlights of the week

I would like to take this opportunity to say what a wonderful first week back we have had at school. All of the children have settled back in brilliantly. A special mention must go to our new Year 3 pupils, who have done a fantastic job of transitioning into junior school life.

Look out for an email that will come out today with a link to a quick questionnaire about behaviour in school. This is one of our key school improvement focuses for the year. The more responses we receive, the more accurate and useful the survey will be, so we would be very grateful for your participation.

Have a lovely weekend

With my very best wishes,

Jon Gale Headteacher

Orchestra got off to a flying start this morning with their first rehearsal of the term. Our new musicians enjoyed taking turns to share a rhythm and listened well to each other and their instruments.

Our Rocksteady sessions started today too, along with some new Year 3 band members. The children had a fantastic time learning what the different instruments sounded like.

Peripatetic music lessons will start next week.

This week in 3A, they have enjoyed getting to know each other and learning some of the new routines in the Juniors. They completed a teamwork activity, where they had to save Sam the wriggly worm when he fell out of his boat. They had to plan how they were going to solve the problem, communicate effectively with their partner and try different ways if it didn't work the first time round.

Year 5 got creative this week with their portrait pictures. They thought about things they enjoyed and what mattered to them and then put them together in to these lovely designs. 5BM were inspired by the Austrian artist Hundertwasser.

Year 3 have enjoyed sharing their Secret Boxes. The teachers have learned a lot about the new children in their classes. We have been supporting all of our children with their oracy skills and have been very impressed by the way our new Year 3s have spoken so eloquently about their special items.

6F were inspired by the Charlie Mackesy book ‘The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse’ this week. They listened to the story and studied the illustrations to then create their own interpretations.
3P spent some time this afternoon talking about how to be good friends in the playground. This lovely picture from F has some very good advice!
6EH created these beautiful bookmarks ready for all the reading that they’ll do this year!
We just had to share this wonderful Minecraft rocket that was created by Felix in Year 5. Such incredible detail! Well done Felix!

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
