The People Behind The Power
When you flip a switch and the lights come on, it feels effortless. But delivering safe, reliable electricity takes a dedicated team of employees, many working behind the scenes, who keep Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC) powered every day. Our Distribution, Field Services, Engineering, and Metering teams design, build, maintain, and restore the electric system that serves our community. From planning future improvements to responding during outages, their work is performed with care, precision, and a strong commitment to safety. Supporting these efforts, Vegetation Management helps maintain clear and safe corridors around power lines, supporting system reliability. The Warehouse, Fleet, Facilities, and Asset Management teams ensure crews have the right materials, dependable vehicles, safe workspaces, and long-term system planning in place. Behind the scenes, System Operations monitors the electric grid 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This work helps ensure reliability and allows crews to respond quickly when conditions change. The Information Technology team maintains the systems that keep operations connected and secure. Customer Service, Accounting, and Marketing serve as the connection between the cooperative and our members, helping keep members informed, supported, and engaged. Human Resources and Safety focus on training, professional development, and fostering a culture where safety always comes first. What makes our cooperative special is that our employees live and work in the communities we serve. They are neighbors, volunteers, and friends who take pride in powering the places they call home. Every department and every employee plays a vital role in delivering reliable, affordable electricity for our members.
A new look. a new website.
This month, CGEMC is launching a refreshed website designed to make it easier to find what you need, when you need it. Frequently used tools—including My Account, Billing and Payments, Outages, and Ways to Pay—will be easier to access with clearer menus and improved navigation. The new site also organizes information into simple sections like Services, Energy Solutions, Community, and Youth Programs, helping members quickly locate programs, resources, and updates. We look forward to rolling out this improved online experience created to better serve our members every day.
cooperation among cooperatives
In February, a winter storm moved through our area, causing service disruptions. CGEMC is grateful for the mutual aid support from Tri-County EMC in Florida, along with our contract line crews, who worked swiftly and safely to restore power for our members. That support played an important role in helping our community recover. Once power was fully restored across Central Georgia EMC’s service territory, our crews were able to pay that support forward. Central Georgia EMC sent two crews to assist Habersham EMC in Clarksville and Middle Tennessee Electric in Murfreesboro, where storm damage had caused widespread outages. Our lineworkers and support personnel traveled outside our service area, bringing additional manpower, equipment, and experience to help speed restoration efforts for members in those communities. Mutual aid is a cornerstone of the electric cooperative system. When severe weather overwhelms local resources, cooperatives work together by sharing crews, trucks, and equipment to restore power as safely and efficiently as possible. This teamwork ensures no cooperative faces a major storm alone and strengthens the network that serves our members every day. We are proud to share that our crews have since returned home safely after completing their work. Their willingness to step up when others need help reflects the cooperative spirit and commitment that define Central Georgia EMC. Thank you to our lineworkers and all those who support them, both at home and across the cooperative network.
Spring Energy Tips
As spring arrives, take advantage of milder temperatures to save energy at home. Open windows on pleasant days to bring in fresh air instead of running your HVAC system. It’s also a great time to replace dirty air filters, which helps your system run more efficiently and improves indoor air quality. As daylight increases, turn off unnecessary lights and use natural light when possible. Small seasonal adjustments like these can reduce energy use, lower monthly bills, and help keep your home comfortable as winter transitions into spring.
Residential Rebates: save money while helping manage energy use
What if upgrading your home could lower your bills and help keep energy costs steady for our entire community? Central Georgia EMC’s Residential Rebate Program makes it possible. When members install qualifying energy-efficient heat pumps or electric water heaters, they receive valuable rebates while supporting smarter energy use during high-demand periods. Through a simple load management switch, participating equipment can briefly reduce use when demand peaks. Comfort stays the same, but the cooperative can better manage resources and keep power affordable for everyone. Want to see how much you could save and whether your equipment qualifies? Explore rebate amounts and eligibility details at www.cgemc.com/residential-rebates.
Upgrade Comfort. Save Energy
Your home’s heating and cooling system plays a major role in comfort and energy use. If your HVAC system is aging or no longer meets your needs, upgrading to a more efficient system can help improve comfort while managing monthly costs. Central Georgia EMC partners with HomeServe to offer a convenient option for HVAC replacement through the Advantage Program. This option connects members with trusted professionals who handle the process from evaluation to installation, helping ensure systems are properly sized and installed for each home. In addition, Central Georgia EMC offers energy efficiency rebates for qualifying HVAC upgrades. Members who install eligible high-efficiency systems may be able to combine this option with available rebates, helping reduce upfront costs and improve long-term energy savings. A high-efficiency HVAC system can provide more consistent temperatures, improved performance, and dependable comfort throughout the year.
